Why ?

To force Australia to change their laws instead. Because it does not work. It was their failure of their law in the first place that enable someone be force to carry drugs ! It is a failure of their law and society to keep drugs in check that lead to this tragic tales.

Why should not we be taking Australia law system to court instead ! for failure to recognise their own failure, and instead they blame Singapore laws for what their own laws fail in the first place.

I’m actually glad the incident has reopened the issue. I’m very against the death sentence for drug trafficking.

There are three reasons to abolish death penalty for drug trafficking:-

(1) Too harsh against the citizens - other nationals not punished with death.

(2) Too harsh against other nationals - back home they are not punished with death

(3) Lack of effectiveness in curbing the real culprits - drug lords.

Should our government treat our own citizens as weaker-willed people who are more willing to be punished more heavily than others.

Should we ignore international opinions on death or drug penalty and subject ourselves to all the strains in international relations with other countries.

Why do we not want to seek greater international cooperation in rooting out the drug production or drug trades instead of taking so many lives based on ineffective punishments and technical offences.

I disagree. I have seen the destruction drugs have caused to so many supposedly liberal societies. I remember seeing kids smoking pot and chasing the dragon around the neighborhood. And I have been approached by kids on the street openly trying to sell me crack in Philadelphia, where is no death penalty; never in Singapores, where there is.

The Golden Triangle is just an hour away by flight and both Thailand and Malaysia have death sentences for drug trafficking. If we abolish the death penalty for drug trafficking, Singapore will be the regional centre for the illicit drug entreport trade.

I will not have that and I will definitely not support any political party who holds that view.

I am not so naive as to think that there is not drug trade going on secretly in Singapore...but that's the point. They go on in secret because the death penalty has a deterrent effect.

If you must commit a crime to get money, go rob a bank, sell your backside or smuggle chewing gum instead of drugs....at least there's no death penalty.

Apart from that, Singapore is a air and sea hub. Many flights and ships transits in Singapore. We must be firm and tough with drug traffikers before they turn Singapore into a Drug Hub.

In fact that article highlighted that australia is the one who is double standard ! Why ? they are complaining that singapore does 320 million trade while Australia does only 27 million ! If they so right then they would have 0% trade !!! dealing with them is still dealing with them, regardless of percentage !!!

Anyway there are 2 choice , one you bring the whole god damn army in , and invade the country and tell the poor farmer that you invaded their country to stop him from growing opium , which is his priced crops and only means of living since you boycott or sanction all other stuff . Yep he will join the damn terrorist or grow more opium. Bravo way to go with the australia idea !!!

The other way is like what other countries in Asia & Singapore. Try to engage it into trade and other business, offer that country other mean and open more ways to the people way of earning money instead. You thing sanction or other blockage will work, in fact it only force the poor farmers and folks to be more dependent on growing opium . Only by encouraging their economy and offering alternative which is what Singapore & other Asia government is doing , but it works .

I stay in Melbourne before for a year.

In fact everyday you see drug dealer standing in the middle of the city, with people walking by passing him money & him passing drugs to them.

Although I cannot say singapore is drug free, at least we don't see that in the middle of Orchard road !

So too bad , She did not manage to hold on to power . What you want to do, invaded Burma and return her to power? She has not been strong enough to hold her post, thus the country may be throw into civil wars and chaos, yes that is the so call freedom at all cost !!! Then the refugees will come to Singapore, and you be free to house some of them.

If the people want her that bad, they would have rise up and return her to power. Obvious her popularity with her own people is just that much talk and protest only, not to die for. Thus maybe it is still better to have some one who at least can control the country from totally chao & civil war.
