BillyBong SG I thought the Aussies should be looking at why so many australians are looking at death or jail terms in SE asia.... Another Ex-aussie model just got jail for possession of drugs in Indonesia.
breytonhartge SG maybe they are not so smart in this area... or they think that they are above the law? hmmm.
deathscythe99 SG There is no one law to apply to all countries, and therefore, I think there is more to it than just making Singapore reverse the judgement. In a sense, they're attacking our use of the death penalty...hmm...
LazerLordz SG It's not exactly them. There are many of us locals who do not agree that it should be an automatic sentence.Keep the death penalty but let the courts decide, not parliamentary legislation.
oxford mushroom SG Singapore must not be moved. Hang the man...send his body with the whole lot of heroin along as a present to John Howard
pat33 SG I remember reading somewhere on LKY who said something along this line:- From his experience as a lawyer and when death sentence has to be decided by a judge or jury, there is the high possiblity of handing out punishment below the death sentence. In other words, high possibility of inconsistency arising out such arrangement.
pat33 SG I wonder what if Nguyen is not an ordinary citizen but a member of Australian diplomatic corp. Will he be cover under diplomatic immunity? Will he be spare the death sentence? It will be very interesting if that is the case.
iveco SG Yeah, so? Does that give him any good excuse to control all branches of administration? Shouldn't the legislature and judiciary be seperate entities?
pat33 SG That was not what he meant. What he meant was this:- if dealth penalty is left to the court to decide and not through parliamentary legislation, there could be inconsistencies in the execution of the law. Does that give him any good excuse to control all branches of administration? He was the Prime Minister of this country. It was the majority of the people who voted him into parliament. Shouldn't the legislature and judiciary be seperate entities? I agree with you somewhat on this statement. But I am sure many would have know by now this is not the case for our country.
