In fact, this is, i suspect the way WE will be managed.
For too long, we have stayed subservient, always being the yes-men
the govt wanted. And for that, Singapore has grown economically and
as a society.
Now, as an increasing number of educated masses hit the streets, it
seems that subservience has come back to bite them.
In fact, this silence of the people is really an enforced problem,
kept in check by contemptuous defamation suits and a 'permit'
system to ensure compliance with rules and regulation set down in
the past.
Other avenues such as letters to the forums of our local papers is
heavily censored and edited by ST editors hungry to snip out
anything remotely deemed as strong criticism towards our govt or
its leaders.
Open letters and emails have fallen on deaf ears.
Hence is this feedback channel of any use? Will it bring about
change? Change which the ruling party is so eager to preach but so
resistant to themselves? Do they even sift through the letters and
complaints from citizens who voice legitimate concerns in writing.
Will anyone address them seriously?
The feedback channel is more the result of an increasing number of
people raising issues, thus the need for more channels of
communication between the govt and the people. But whether they
will be adequately used by those behind the scenes is another
question.
To that end, people have the right to be skeptical.
