I don't know a lot of drugs, but I do know that when taken over a sufficeient period of time, it will cause addiction.

To sentence him to death, the drugs must be very addictive.

Even though he needs to pay off debts, there is no reason for him to resort to illegal ways. There are other ways. So I support it, whatever his reasons.

The reason for your view to abolish death penalty is that death penalty so far does not achieve the intended purpose in that :-

(1) IT DOESN'T REDUCE CRIME RATES

(2) IT DOESN'T DETER CRIMINALS

(3) IT DOESN'T MAKE SOCIETIES SAFER OR MORE HUMANE

The government should study the statistics and tell us the death penalty does achieve the intended results of lowering the particular crimes visited by such cruel punishments. If government cannot show that death penalty is effective then it is only causing unnecessary death. Substitute death penalty with life improvement for the time being while conducting the study. This will show that we have a humane and caring government or people's government.

It is wrong to manage the country by assumptions as assumptions can be terribly wrong.

Singapore is less than 2 hours from the Golden Triangle by flight, where most of this region's heroin and morphine come from. All our neighbouring countries along this route Thailand, Malaysia) have death sentences for drug trafficking. If Singapore abolishes the death penalty for drug offences, we will become the regional headquarters for the illicit drug entreport trade.

Then none of us may be here to post. Can anyone be sure that when we travel someone might not be slipping some parcel of drug into our luggage and we then get prosecuted for death penalty. Can anyone honestly say we never break any law or such an incident might not happen to us?

I don't agree either, because I hold the view some people still deserve to die. But not this boy. Personally, it would be a very good idea to keep the death sentence, BUT abolish the 'mandatory' bit b4 the death sentence, to make it more flexible.

i agree. we cannot abolish. but we can make it more flexible by doing away with the 'mandatory' part. In fact, we should have a rule that known drug lords can be arrested and excecuted even if they aren't carrying drugs. Hanging small fishes whose motivations weren't greed solves nothing.
