The autobahn is a very very long highway. If everyone drove at
109 km/h, they'll never reach home. As a response, each lane on the
autobahn is about 1.5 times the width of the lane on the PIE.
From science you will know that, things further away from you seems
to be moving slower than things that are nearer. Also, when cars
are further away from you, you have less probability of banging
into them and getting into accidents. I'm working on the premise
that you actually need to hit the other car with your own.
It is not feasible to expect vehicles on the autobahn to travel
within an unrealistic limit. Singapore is so small, without
speeding, you can travel from boon Lay to bedok in about 30 mins.
With speeding, you only require 15 to 20 mins.
