Did you guys read the forum page where a reader wrote in to
feedback on the misuse of 999 to make non - emergency
reports?
I think the most simplistic answer is that the telephone nos. of
NPCs are usually toll-free and damn bloody long. Ask anyone on the
streets what is the no of their nearest NPC, the answer would most
probably be "don't know". Even I also don't know the no of my
NPC.
So it will become very natural for us to dial 999 instead.
