If this ever happens u are going to see problems. overcrowding, transport congestion, social problems, racial intolerance

How are they going to solve these problems when they have problems with the current 3-4 million people?

This infact is sheer madness.But SG is too small for 3-4M already, and we all know this.Once you reach the point of saturation, people will start leaping off HDB like lemmings. And prepare to encounter congestion even in your HDB lifts when u are going for work early in the morning. Again another congestin takign the ransport and yey another at lunchtime. apart from this with the limited hospitals, u are going to wait a whole day to see a doctor.

As with the concept of underground shopping malls around the world, SG can develop underground living space for the subsequent 3-4 million projected inhabitants.

The other alternative would be to reclaim land...southwards if possible to avoid another debacle with our northern neighbours.

We are already in the process of maximising high-rise apartments, going underground is simply the next logical step.

We're ALREADY grossly overcrowded now. 7 million? Good luck to all of us. To get that number more than half will have to be foreigners The irony is that the more overcrowded we get, the less willling people are to reproduce. Hence the need for overseas imports to maintain the numbers. Rolling Eyes

Before proceeding on, we should ask ourselves few questions:

Where is the job market for 7millions?
What type of people are we trying to get into Sg to fill up the balance 3-4mil?
How do we intregate these "new Singaporeans" into our society?

The Sg would definitely become a more crowded place, but these problems could be solved by using $$$ and creative space usage / planning.

Actually many of the expats here already feel we're too small and overcrowded. They just decide to tahan for the time being. Smile

Perhaps in 20 years time we'd have been relegated to third world status with overcrowded streets full of well educated beggars that will beg tourists and expats for handouts. Smile

And frm the point of view from the implementation level, given the govt track record in the recent FT policy, i foresee another failure and more problems

How far can u go? Given , the various tunneling of the MRT under the island and more will shake the foundation.
And u need more life support systems in place which = cost

I believe the 7 Mil figure.. or rather.. the 5Mil figure.. is a long term master planning assumption for govt agencies to size their respective infrastructure.

For example.. there must be sufficient residential land safeguarded to handle that number, or the water treatment plants need to support that figure.

I have not read anything that suggests that the govt or the economy needs 5 or 7Mil ppl to survive. Or is there such an official statement made that I am not aware of?
