His CV as taken from Weekend Today: - Director of the Security and Intelligence Department in the 1970s - Permanant Secretary for Ministry of Foreign Affairs for 3 years (1979 - 1982) - Executive chairman of Straits Times Press 1982 - 1988 - High Commissioner to Malaysia 1988-1999How come he switched jobs so fast? How come LHL did not raise this question on Nathan? Was the Ministry of Foreign Affairs satisfied with his performance? Want to ask his former employers to give press interviews?
jataro SG can only have holiday if garmen candidate sure to win. don't understand !? i.e. in mahjiong, u can only start to play when garmen have 13 wonders or sup san u. in poker, garmen must have Ace pair, u must have 3 & 7. no 50-50 chance ok!?
Weirdo80 SG Another setback for the effort to start a democracy in Singapore. My heart bleeds for the nation. My sincere condolences. All these feelings will one day manifest itself into one huge pus explosion that the PAP cannot contain. Another 6 years for an ex-Kempeitai translator to rule the nation. He has helped the nation by weeding out many anti-Japanese elements in the country! Isn't that praiseworthy? In fact, your own forefathers may have been tortured with the assistance of this roti prata. Makes me want to vomit.
iveco SG It was either that or get stuck in the concentration camp. He was caught between a rock and a hard place. I can't really fault him completely.
theoronin SG Let's assume that in spite of our armed forces, Singapore is conquered by an enemy country and President Nathan is captured, what do you suppose President Nathan's actions would be? Would he say, "You can pry Singapore's secrets out of my cold dead fingers" or would he cooperate with the enemy? Would he act differently from the past?
LinYu SG Just listen to the radio 95.8FM this morning on the call-in program on do you accept the newly elected president. 99% of the call-in express disgust and contempt and felt that our elected presidency is a joke. Wonder if they are listening?
Agressor SG There goes my one day holiday. But hopefully in the next 6 years there will be one make up when Mr. Nathan ....$5& My new pledge : We, the citizens of Singapore Pledge ourselves as one individual, Regardless of who the president is, his age, and his responsibility. To create a scene of democratic society, base on powers of the Lees so as to acheive, happiness, prosperity and wealth for our government.
Atobe SG I wonder, as the Head of the ISD, does this position require Financial training to read any Billion Dollar accounting of the ISD or anyone's accounts ? As the Chairman of SPH, does this position require any Financial background to administer the finances of the Corporation, or is this left to the CEO and CFO to advise and support this 'figure head' position ? As the High Commissioner, does this position also involve any management of large finances ? All the appointments held by the incumbent President-Elect S R Nathan were political appointments that were assigned to him, and his career path was one that was developed by the Elites in the Ruling Party, who have trust in his ability to be loyal to their Politics. It is a nice reward for his past years of loyalty and for his final years as S R Nathan approach 80, receiving an annual salary of slightly over S$2 million, which will leave a tidy sum of S$12 Million from the past six years, and another S$12 Million for the next six years. It is almost better then striking the Big Sweep every year for twelve straight years, as other perks are also included.
Nelstar SG The president is a mascot, like our merlion. What makes u think a Singapore President holds comparable power to America's President? Suffice to say, I'm just voting for the mascot for our country. I'll love to see a cute and chubby one up there. The realilty of it is, the president is just a ceremonial role. He is just an established figure. An animal whose photo is hung in every public sector to remind the people... that this place is owned by the Government. It does little difference, who actually is in the office. His role is to celebrate National Day, go attend to other mascots like Queen of England, Sultans in Malaysia etc.
Nelstar SG Anyway.. just to say again.. Andrew Kuan never held office for an important role. His role as a Chief Finance Officer does not technically qualify. Your nathan may be pap-elected but he at least director for several kachang-puteh co and organisations. He once director of company for the money used to buy kachang-puteh. He oso was once the director of the company for the paper used to wrap kachang-puteh.If JTC doesn't even wants to admit Andrew Kuan's legibility, what makes you think of his credibility? It's just like voting for the colours of the flag. WTH for? The only good thing is that I can take official day off to vote and still claim OT... It's not like choosing the person who decides the future of Singapore. It's choosing the person who acts as a mascot.

It was meritocracy and then privatising it into Singapore.pte.ltd..
