guys guys while you are arguing about who pay i thinki should just remind that government pay for it means we pay for it also since they use tax money one and so its still from us just not so obviously. they might just raise taxes to finance it or implement a breathing tax?

it is the government's duty to protect the country and it is ridiculous to make us pay for the installation of whatever they have in mind, against terrorist or otherwise.

Silly idea. The costs of installing these things should be borne entirely by the government simply because we are already paying taxes, and it is the JOB of the government to use the money collected to adequately ensure our safety. If there is not enough money (?!?!), then somebody is not doing their job properly.

Maybe our taxes should be pegged to the amount of government services we actually use and we should received a clearly itemised tax bill each month instead....

Edit: i use the term 'we' loosely because as a poor student, i am not actually contributing much in tax terms to the governemnt. I am sure there are many other such leechers posting here.

Actually dragg, I am against just about 99% or everything the government here does, but in this case, I'd say it was already out of their hands before they said the first word as far as terrorism is concern.

While I do agree that they have big mouths and if Singapore ever went to war, it'll be because of something they said rather than an invader wanting our non-existing resources. From a global view point, Singapore is seen as a sort of "fortress of security" in Asia. If they can attack Singapore and cause panic and destruction here, it will be a huge sign to the rest of Asia that nowhere is safe. This alone is a huge carrot being waved in the eyes of terrorists... The government has little choice but to align themselves with US and Britain to fight this.

...transfering this costs back to us (again), when we're already paying all sorts of taxes which they siphon off into their pockets "legally" through their ridiculous pay packages.. That I disagree with!!!

The ministers do not need to hold jobs involved in CCTV trade. There are creative ways to go about that restriction if they really want to be involved in the trade.

Do you know about a particular law firm in Singapore and its involvement in nearly every stamp duties on properties bought and sold?

basic low cost cctv is good for hdb flats , lift robbery is extremely dangerous
even more dangerous than malaysia infamous snatch theif.

it can happened to anyone.
and arrest is practically so low as no one can really describe attacker.

with cctv, can see who the person is but it will be useless if he wears a mask.

even yishun blk320 also get hit by lift robber and this block is only 50m from yishun police neighbourhood centre.

town council and police or national crime something should foot all the bills and do all the labour.

Care to elaborate why it is silly? I thought it should be a question of effectiveness and the cost and benefit analysis of it.

For example, if your house got break in and this CCTV recorded essential clues that lead to the arrest of the culprit, and the recovery of your stolen assets, will you then say that it is silly? I think not. It certainly does has its benefits.

However, with low crime rate in Singapore, will it then be beneficial to residents to pay for this? Unless the cost is low enough to be deem insignificant.

Perhaps they can extend the features to allow parents to monitor when their kids come home .... and make the parents pay for this special service to subsidize the recurring cost of it.

Just my 2 cents worth

Ministers' Choice:

(A) Better keep low profile so that terrorist cannot see us. Afterall, they may not even find us on the map...heee

Consequence: Singapore, being small, become more and more unknown. Singaporeans will curse the govt for being useless and unable to establish a presence in the international arena.

(B) Inform the international community of our stand and gather rapport from our allies.

Consequence: kenna scolded here in forum by those who think that ministers are inviting trouble and terrorists to our door. However, unknown to us, we might be able to summons all the support we need from international communities if the unfortunate event should befall us.

Looks like no matter how, our ministers will kenna wacked in forums...
