While I myself is an alumni of NUS, I find it disgusting that
newspapers and even NUS itself has chosen to mislead the public
about
its
ranking. NUS and newspapers have repeatedly emphasized the
fact
that the rankings are done by the reputable The Times newspaper.
This
is FALSE, and I'm sick of reading it in the newspaper
everyday.The
Times
Higher Education Supplement is NOT a supplement or
an insert of the Times newspaper. It is NOT part of the Times
newspaper. Although it started as a supplement to the Times
newspaper, it became
A STANDALONE TITLE almost A HUNDRED YEARS ago ! THES is
currently published by TSL Education, and is obviously nowhere
as
influential or reputable as the Times newspaper. In fact, THES is
not
even a
widely read paper and you wouldn't find it in most
news stands in UK. The ONLY relation THES have with the Times
newspaper
is that they are both owned by Rupert Murdoch's News
International.
The
Times newspaper do have yearly universities
ranking, but they are only restricted to British universities.
I'm
happy that NUS has made great progress over the years, but
misleading
the
public by claiming that they have been highly ranked
by a reputable newspaper is not something very honorable.
Frankly,
I'm
quite ashamed that my alma mater have to resort to this to
boost
their
profile. You can find information about TSL here.
