SilverPal SG I dun think any foreign bodies are monitoring our rights, or the lack of it... ironically, the same ppl who believe that its perfectly sensible to control their own pay feel there is no conflict of interest in monitoring our rights and their own abuse (or lack thereof) of our rights.
Just_Dragon SG Down here... there is never any human rights. Not even animal rights. The only thing that is right is Money Right. You have the money, you are right.
iveco SG Who says no animal rights? You beat up a dog that attacked your son, you still go to jail. Dogs have it better than us humans.
Just_Dragon SG yes.. u go to jail for that... but the dog will be put to sleep to prevent further harm oso. So what right?
iveco SG Can you remember the guy who beat up his neighbour's irritating dog and caused its death some years back? I don't think it is a sin in any case, so why criminalise his actions?
ShutterBug SG Rights? What rights? Human Rights? We have that? I don't think so, but let me tell you what rights we have here; "...we have the right to remain silent, anything you say can & will be held against you in the court of law..." that's what rights we have here!
robertteh SG To answer your question, let's us examine our citizens' rights. Do they possess for example any of the 7 basic rights (posted under "Defintion of True Democracy") of citizens:- (1) Do we still have the "One Man One Vote" right, given the fact that only 40 % of eligible voters can cast their votes vote under the handicapped GRC-controlled voting process ? (2) Right of Protection against prosecution for political participation. (3) Basic personal rights e.g. freedom of speech without being sued for defamation. (4) Right to observance of Rule of law, fairness and equity in enforcement of election or constitutional rights of citizens.(ministers getting within boundary of election booths not even regarded as an offence) (5) Rights to seek protection by an independent constitution sub-court open to observers from UN agencies for matters relating to political participation by citizens. (6) Right to seek protection by an independent constitution sub-court against conflict of interest among the executives - e.g. self-approved bonuses or highest salaries (equated inequitably to the highest private sector) and life-long annuities (S$1,000 million) to 3-term MP/Ministers/Political Office holders. (7) Safeguard against prosecution of political opponents e.g. speeches made during election campaigns.
