Is it about time we use less plastic bags?

Gordonator SG · 2005-06-06T22:12:59+00:00

it is a concern as plastic is nonbiodegradable. the noxious chemicals from plastics can also lead to pollution when burnt.

Gordonator SG

We use up to 40 billion plastic bags each year. There’s a lot judging by our small population. Do you think it is about time we do our part to save the environment and cut down on the use of plastic bags?

sgboy2004 SG

use paper bag?

sgboy2004 SG

gone were the days when pple cladded in their lacy nite dress and bringing their tumbler to the market to buy breakfast or even supper Laughing

will the stall holders say 10 cents less if u bring your own container?

ShutterBug SG

Save the environment? WHAT, environment?

In the first place, where does all our waste go to?

monkeybusiness SG

think most ppl in sg oredy take it for granted Rolling Eyes

hmsg SG

practise what other countries do … charge $ for the plastic bags ….

sgboy2004 SG

really?

Gordonator SG

taiwan is doing it. their convenient stores like 7-eleven charges NT$1 for bags.

sgboy2004 SG

equal to 5 cents in spore?

Gordonator SG

yup. Cool

Gordonator SG

that's why the public must be educated about this. not wait for government to come out what laws or what so ever then take action. Rolling Eyes

sgboy2004 SG

it got to start with the habit...

going against economics law, cut the supplier and kill the demand Very Happy

it’s seems like the cashiers like to give out plastic bags. sometimes, i just buy singular small item and they will just put the item into the plastic bag. had to tell them i dun need, they wldnt ask one

The man who was death SG

Huh be like taiwan and pay for plastic bags?

SBS9828X SG

Maybe cashers shud ask cos if just a small item, bags are not needed and fast-food restaurants should be like BK

101wish SG

Not oni sg. the world uses alot of plastics, tat's y other countries hav been practicing recycling, pay plastics bag n if u reuse plastic bag/stuff , u can get $$ back.

Not to say too much of science here but the technology is gg for biodegrable plastics, hopefully to save the world

rascallyun SG

Was just talking about it, apparently in Taiwan, the practice is not to give out plastic bags. You have to either pay for it or bring your own.

Gordonator SG

indeed. let say u already have a bag or is carring a bag and is buying small items, tell the cashiers u don't need the bag. Wink

Profounder SG

This must have arisen from the article from that free-sheet called Today.

Legitimate concern but how about also telling Today to print less copies of its freesheet to save paper, instead of claiming a readership base of 500,000 when you know each auntie or uncle at the MRT station usually grabs one stack of it to use for wrapping fish, meat and what not at the market.

Why judge and change a small country over the use of plastic bags?
After plastic bags, what's next? Plastic chopsticks, spoons and plates?
Sssh.

Aren't there more important things to judge and change in our small country than anything plastic?

Shocked
