Good idea. They should have charging points where there are hotspots!!! Or even all cafes... hmm... i htink they will make it cash-card chargeable to that...

THE INTELLIGENT NATION 2015 (iN2015) MASTER PLAN

As with the pace of change in technology, Singapore's infocomm landscape is set to witness exciting developments in the years to come.

This is the premise of Intelligent Nation 2015 or iN2015 a 10-year master plan to grow the infocomm sector, and chart the use of technology for work, life and leisure.

Spearheaded by the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore, iN2015 will be conceived through a national co-creation effort by all who have a stake in the future of Singapore. This includes the industry, government and people, i.e. YOU.

another move to boost economy by doing some massive htingy to create employment and cash inflow, majiam last time mrt like dat.

the Bear SG

i hope they remember that some things, you don't need to IT the damned thing to hell..

remember things like NEL trains? IT cost more and was less useful than the low-tech solution Laughing

throwing money to make things more difficult with IT is not what i call "intelligent"

robertteh SG

Worshipping technology is different thing from total involvement in understanding and applying techologies.

We are supposed to have many scholars some of them probably trained in latest technological developments from IT to micro-electronics and bio-tech etc etc.

A senior minister should long ago have undertaken total close-up review of all the value-adding industries under a high-level economic master plan to chart our practical new direction to upgrade the economy. Our leaders have only been talking about value-adding economic strategy since the 1980s.

All the talents should be assembled into a high-level team whose principal tasks are to formulate and implement our own self-reliant domestic economic sector now found to be so lacking. I am sure that such a high-level economic master plan when put up and reviewed monthly will enable Singapore to quicken the current pace of economic development and guide all businesses to reach greater competitiveness. It is not just IT plan but the total integration of all high-tech industries into the EDB implementation of investment promotion.

The University researches similary will have a clearer direction to work in tandem with the domestic industries. A new sense of urgency and total immersion should be inculcated among the whole government from PMO downwards to nurture and incentivise the value-adding economic development of Singapore. Now it is simply too slow and full of rhetoric and self-justifications. Foreign investments are deserting us because they are not able to tap on any particular practical plan to take advantage of our strategy.

Whateve rhas been said about our economic re-sructuring it is not taking place fast enough to prepare for our timely upgrading.

Ad hoc planning of a bit of this or that is not the correct method. We are seriously lagging behind South Korea and Taiwan who have entrenched themselves in technological developments at the highest national level. Laughing

yawn....

few yrs back also got such plans....
i haven seen any thing spectacular...
until i see things lik wat u get in korea...
then its something...

10 yrs is too long...
just get the top engineering professionals together 3-5 yrs enuf...
problem is... no such people here....
only top level managers who talk only... yet get paid so much...

yawn........

no need these government people talk cock...
just give ask them gimme 1-2 million...
i assure them something spectacular....in 1-2 yrs time

Qitai SG

Can start simple? I just want my bandwidth at low cost. We are losing in this arena.

diggo SG

Personally, i find SGP adopting technology too fast without looking into the cost and benefits of it all.

One of it is the road information systems. It cost a huge sums.. which at the end of the day, does not justify the cost and benefits at all. For the sake of implementation, maybe they have done a CBA... but without being totally trueful.

the Bear SG

this is exactly what one columnist said in Today a week ago..

i have actually questioned my organisation's drive towards IT and was shot down.. ended up us doing more work to sustain a useless system, have to depend on the old method of paper in case the system crashes... and the "system" is harder to use than anything else...

so... where was the savings? where was the efficiency?

a CBA is necessary but i guess most are pet projects of people high up, there are enough sycophants around to suck up to them telling them their fart doesn't stink to move these projects along...

so, we waste craploads of money...

chunyong SG

doesn't work ? never mind....must look good, work anot people won't know...just look nice can liao...just look hightech can liao...look is all it matters....work anot we can cover-up.

vito_corleone SG

another failed project in the making..just like the IT hub/tourism hub/banking and finance hub projects in the past decade.

lotus999 SG

True, there is lack of debate/discussions in many big projects which lead to huge losses.

robertteh SG

Many past glamorously publicised projects like value-adding industries and developing centres of various excellence have failed because our leaders are only concerned with ideas and decisions but not implementation.

Consistency and focus were clearly not practised. There were no relevant processes that will allow various objectives and plans to be translated to something that can be performed and attained daily and regularly.

The top leaders are full of ideas but the middle and bottom levels do not know how to process the plans and decisions. Senior officers all know how to present broad concept plans with good projections but they do not spend the time to groom the men, processes, controls and feedbacks with periodic monitoring and self-correction to reach goals.

Everything would be assumptions and assumptions and there will be a lot of meetings to solve conceptual problems without being concerned with doings and performance or even making feedbacks successful. No wonder the IT corridors were presented as if they are so advanced but no one as usual will attend to the implementation and doing to get results again.

Laughing

chunyong SG

well, there is dis invisible 'box', ideas originated from there, implemented inside and everything works fine cos it is just a micromodel....when fullscale launch it is outside the box...everything fails and then they wonder why, wonder how...

so common....

NuLife SG

Actually, i see more benefits than issues...

So far, most of which goes online are good...
more convenient for consumers like us...
and shud be cheaper to maintain is done correctly...

What im hoping to see is something more... egs
-cheaper access
-more hotspots w cost subscriptoin
-more relevant and useful services...

the problems are:
-coming out w good useful ideas
-quality of implementation
-ease and cost of deployment + maintainance

charlize SG

Cheaper access?
This is Singapore. Things don't get cheaper. Laughing

oldbreadstinks SG

u mean its like doing project work for them?

NuLife SG

i applaud this for trying to get feedback from people...

but i theres something i do not understand...

i wonder how they will implement any ideas thats
more commercial than having any linkage w governemnt....
eg some hi-tech intelligent products....
cos these area are often the private sectors's thing...

i do not expect the government to do these...
and compete with private sectors...

also i do not think they can implement such ideas well
due to lack of right people resources...
its will end up wasting tax money again....

unless they start another funding program
for such ideas... then its more appropriate...
i might aplpy for it then...

charlize SG

Are you sure they are trying to get feedback?
Everything has already been decided and planned.
The process is now to make Singaporeans think they had something to do with it. Laughing

the Bear SG

i kinda agree with you..

like the casino issue, this is like a show... they've already decided and come hell or high water, we're going to have to do it...

NuLife SG

they need to get ideas... cos they have no great ideas...
esp when it comes to technology....

but i really do not think the govenrment shud do these...
its a private sector thing....
