mannovo SG There is a interesting thread in icered.com singapore, in the civil service section where our scholars are promoting themselves as high flyers in the civil service. They shld be ashamed of their self-promotion and what have they contribute to our country. Check it out.
Ecxentrique SG PSC and the stat boards give out so much scholarship.. there are so little places at the top how much can be accomodated? Reminds me of a newspaper report on the guy who posted racist remarks on his blog.. that's the surest and dumbest way to condemn himself for the rest of his life.. a long road to redemption.. another one was the SAF scholar that tried to bribe a senior DSTA official.. and a lot of scholars also gets dropped along the way.. yah high-flyers in a way they get a chance to fly.. but they ain't flying yet.. and if and when you hit the dirt.. its like everyone else.. or even uglier.. for the benefit of others.. i believe this is the link that was referred to by the original poster.. http://www3.icered.com/icered/home/forum/threadList.jspa?locationID=3&whereAmI=18&threadID=87103&tstart=0
robertteh SG Looking at all these self-promotion, it makes me think very lowly of our scholars. If we really want to build a society of excellence, let them learn humility first. Test them out to contribute to the nation through their works and professions. They must score goals for companies or the nation e.g. win international recognition for good researches or inventions etc before they are considered scholars in my eye. If they just want to be scholars getting good jobs good pays, they are not scholars but just living off society's goodwill lah.
LazerLordz SG What makes a scholar in the first place?Ability to meet a set of criteria laid down by our government?That sounds more of job matching, Being a scholar in the true sense of the word is to be a person looked upon with respect and is able to be articulate on many different issues, and also a person capable of engaging anyone.
Ecxentrique SG In PSC's case.. Good results A levels and S papers.. Good ECA Ability to pass through the rounds of interview for the scholarship.. that's pretty much about it..
Ecxentrique SG The entire scholarhship programme is just to lock all the good stuff and all the supposedly good brains up so that they dun go off and become another threat to the ruling party..
