Film about Singapore opposition leader pulled

The establishment sets the tone, the tone of a forked-tongue.And with the deep influence the media had on the citizens and the policies inculcated over the years, it’s not surprising to see the majority of citizens here as hypocrites and double-crossers.If you want to embellish it just a bit more, let’s just call them Pragmatists.

If pap is daring enuf, they should screen the movie and defend themselves or something. Anyway, what do they take singaporeans for???? Idiots who go over to the opposition cuz of a film??? MY GOODNESS! Aiya.. anyway pap's actions now were influenced by singapore's history... so they being so worried taht opposition win also understandable one lar....

Censorship implies that the authorities do not trust citizens to be mature enough to make their own judgements on circulated media.

A film depicting the struggles of a discredited opposition leader may be mediocre, but why not let the public decide for themselves first? Blocking the film in this internet age only serves to fire the curiosity of the well-informed, turning it into a tempting forbidden fruit.

I lost all respect for Chee Soon Juan the day i saw him on TV, shouting at then- PM Goh during a walk-about during the days leading up to the General Elections. 'Where is our money?' his famouse words. My god, he acts like some sam seng kia and his mouth shoots off so many things that he kenna sued like siao. Also, there was once he proclaimed 2 go on a hunger-strike, only 2 be discovered that he was drinking water.

By making a documentary about him, whatever the intention of the director is, it seems that it is trying 2 glorify a man who cannot be trusted. So, it is just as well we do not get 2 see film about him.

CSJ doesn't have PR skills. He isn't media-suave and therefore when he speaks, he often comes out too hasty, too rushed and therefore can be easily painted as a person who's rude, uncouth and disrespectful. Especially when the press is govt controlled.

CSJ has written some good articles before- on the SDP website and other pro-opposition websites as well. He has the gift of writing stuff but simply when it comes to dealing with the press, he needs someone who's more able to handle the media.

He just cannot handle the media at all.

As for the banning of a film regarding CSJ- it only shows how much lip service the PAP is committed to paying to the overall 'creativity' of the film festival and ordinary S'poreans. With so many rules, no wonder prospective s'porean film directors either rather study something they dislike or they make their films overseas and study film overseas in an open environment.

Singaporeans cannot be trusted to critically evaluate what they see in a film. But they are responsible enough not to blow all their wealth in the casino..

I don't think much of Chee Soon Juan and would not bother watching the film even if it was screened. But I am sick of the government treating me like a kid. Gosh, I am no elite but I am not daft either.

I think they might as well be honest and change the restriction to say that political films that do not paint a rosy picture of the ruling party are to be banned. I mean, we see documentaries and shows all the time on TV about the ruling party, harry lee, etc etc etc. Are those not political programmes?
There are times I wonder how stupid does the ruling party think the average singaporean is.
