I would say only that the gahmen has successfully stiffled the
political scene in SG.
As a result, we hear only one voice.
Mr Chiam's noble attempts to push for the lift upgrading in his
ward were doomed from the start. Concern over his popularity if his
plan succeeded would certainly have turned public opinion in his
favour. Hence, the gahmen did as many expected, marginalised his
request as un-economical.
This is in line with the freebies passed out through their town
councils of the Singapore Power vouchers, an incident highlighting
the David vs Goliath playing field, a game David is unlikely to
upset.
However, the alternatives have succeeded in projecting this image
of the gahmen to the locals: highhanded and arrogant.
Perhaps now, the ruiling party will exercise caution and restraint
before resorting to 'danglling the carrot'.
