How many times do we stream our students?
Pri 4, Pri 6, Sec 2, Sec 4.... did I leave anything out?
And MOE.... don't give me this bullsh*t about how SG's education
system is world-class, US students are using our textbooks, etc
etc.
It's not world-class when we stifle the creativity of our students
for so many years and expect them to pull rabbits out of their hats
when drastic changes are made in a short space of time.
It is not world class when we turn the education of our young into
an elitist system where the smart ones get groomed and the
supposedly 'Normal' ones get condemned and shunned by
society.
It is not world class when we do all sorts of flip-flops in
education policy like the time when they abruptly yanked the SAT
requirement from the admission to unis after just 2 years or so. A
number of my friends signed up and sweated for SAT just to reapply
for uni admissions. We were the last batch to not have to take SAT,
you see.
I recall hearing a collective stream of profanities from them when
the news broke out that SAT is no longer needed.
Heck, I once remembered that back in Sec 4, my form teacher showed
my class a file from MOE. It was MOE's expectations of what grades
we would get in the upcoming O Levels. I was expected by those
imbeciles, I mean, MOE HQ personnel, to get 15 for my L1R5 and B3
and B4 for my E Maths and A Maths respectively.
I got 8 points for my L1R5, A1 for E Maths, and A2 for A
Maths.
I'm not trying to boast.... I'm trying to say one thing:
Up yours, MOE.
