if SG gals served NS, will you guys still want her? She'd be tan, roughened and toughened out. i noe some sg guys would prefer their gals to be fair and gentle.

gals serve their country in a different way. like wat someone mentioned: can't have everyone at the frontline can they?
while the guys are out at war, the gals will prob be the ones making sure the children are safe. and all the other functions going on, being overshadowed by the fighting.

medical help = we need trained people in order to save lives. every second counts.

Yes, a short course on first aid will help ALOT. I would prefer more indepth training, much like a medic's so that we can free up even more people to be in the combat vocation. First Aid alone can do only very little tho, but better than none. I would also suggest refresher courses every year.

not everyone is as strong emotionally as you..

to me protecting the country, thou impt, comes 2nd
family comes 1st for me.. so i need them to be safe and not at the front line w me..
just my point of view

and yes i agree w juz_a_gal..
i`ll prefer a gentle gal to a rugged one
but a refresher cuz every year will mean more money
in turn more tax on the ppl
and u must know how much marginal benifit it gives the people??

i believe a 1 week basic course will be sufficient to induct basic life saving skills..
or at least know how to `help` an injured person

1) Yes I think every citizen has the responsibility to contribute to the defence in Singapore

2) I pay tax which funds the weapons and train our men (I think I'm gonna get flamed for this sentance here) Seriously, what we can do is to keep vigilagence. It might not be war per se but against terrorists etc

3) How do you define which role plays a bigger part. Everyone, no matter how small a role is, is important in defending their own country.

4) Yes. I'm happy here, but that doens't mean I won't move out of the country if there is a better opportunity. I love Singapore for whatever faults she has. No country is perfect.

actually ur stats arnt correct

in war only abt 30% of a normal population wil be at the front line
the rest consist of children and elderly and women..

but tt`s not an issue
assume 30 % of population (gals)taking care of 40 %(children & elderly )??

yes, at least some sensible discussion here. Not some whiner-calling b|tch Rolling Eyes who doubles as a Professional Tai Tai.

Good point on the $$ problem. However, I think it is a small issue considering the importance of full support in 'Total Defense'. In many wars, many soldiers die becoz of insufficient medical support. Also there are many other fields worth considering, not only combat or medical. Logistics are vital too. Refresher courses are important becoz many people forgets stuff like this over a few years time. It is similar to the reason why we have reservists and ICT.
