Just imagine: A tree with spread out branches & leaves (for some yrs) suddenly one day chopped to just a lone tree trunk with no branches or leaves (just like a coconut tree minus all its leaves).

This is the work of Sembawang Town Council.The PAP govt can't even take good care of a tree or rather cruel to a tree,can u expect it to take good care of the ppl?

It is no wonder ppl died in Nicholl Highway collapse and commando dunking incident.It is also little wonder that the law allow flogging molesters & illegal immigrants.

To me,this msg is a criticism against the govt.To the Oppositionists,this is pro-PAP.Anyway,have your say.

Additional Remark

Generally,the govt takes good care of trees.But that kind of foolish thing shouldn't happen.Since it happened,the govt should seriously look into the causes of it and find a solution.

Everyone who is worth their salt in the horticulture industry will tell u that pruning the tree in that manner is in the long term interest for such a tree in an urban environment.

It promotes new vibrant growth, and ensures no excessive branch overhangs.

Alot of planning goes into the trees that are planted in common areas. Its not just any old how put here put there. Laughing Every plant is studied, their seasonal variations, the number of leaves they drop per day, every little thing loh.

How to spot poor planning? Look for a fountain with lots of leaves in the water.

Am I responsibled for the tree get killed?Surely no.If is the officer concerned of the town council who decided to kill it.

For your info,many trees were killed in the estate by the staff of the town council for no good reason.They are supposed to take care of trees but they kill some of them.Would the MP concerned remain silent?

Govt dun chop trees for nothing. From what I know, got ppl go around th island to check the trees for diesease, infection, etc for the trees.

Just like the bird flu, if a tree is infected by virus or insects,etc they have to terminate it or risk infecting the whole tree network in Singapore (as you know the HDB or road side vegetation are ususally the same species).

Or the tree is just simply dying, in such case, they have to remove it before it become a hazard( i.e. fallling branches,etc)

u obviously dun have a green thumb... i used to take care of bonsais for my grandpa when he was still around...

its absolutely necessary to trim of the dead wood once in awhile...

it looks cruel to the tree after u prune it cos it looks botak and dead, but when the new leaves grows out, its very nice...

modern gardening is about mastering nature... promoting growth when necessary, restricting it when its called for. it is only in this way that the trees can blend in with the urban environment.

What u say is trees under the care of National Park Agency.For trees under HDB or town councils,they are not in charge.

I believe trees are pruned until botak because grass can't grow under their shade.Do u ppl notice??

I don't think the others were hostile or criticising you. They were merely telling you something which they think you might not know. Anyway, what they said were facts. Also if everyone agreeing with everybody then life becomes very boring liao, teo bo ?

But there were times where some nuts actually felled trees for no real good reasons or too early for some developments. Evil or Very Mad

Maybe if you feel strongly about it then you should query them. Sometimes these ppl need to be re-educated. Unmanaged felling of trees will cause our climate to become warmer and the environment more polluted.
