Buying new car. any suggestions???

hi there. since the 30% downpayment is unnecessary now, i'm thinking of getting a new car. Maybe a 1.5 litres will do. don't feel like getting Honda. No offence, although the car make is good, but the price is way too costly, and also petrol consumption is way high.

i'm thinking of maybe a Toyota Corolla, Lancer 1.5GDI, or Subaru impreza.

don't want to buy too expensive ones. maybe in-between $70-$85k.

any suggestion??

and also, lets say the car is $80k, and we do not have to pay Downpayment right, then what are the cost that i need to pay when i get the car???

let's say including all the paper work???
any experience drivers or dealers around or friends can help??
i really need to get the money ready first, just in case i over spend.. hahaha

Frankly speaking.. To me i find tat....
If u get a loan for 90%. Assume u paid 10% download n took a 10 yrs loan. can u imagine how much extra interest u will be paying for the car. Think maybe close to or even more than $10K of interest. Doesnt sound worth it. Plus last time i read a post from someone from some site, cant remember liao. If u wanna sell ur car away after 5yrs.. instead of getting some money back.. u actually had to chip in to pay the loan company.

Impreza 4 dr 1.6A is about S$85 k with COE.. approach the dealer and settle on a car loan if u like... the rest the dealer will instruct u.. i bought my car before the downpayment thing... Neutral

thanks for your reply. the impreza, is the one with the round headlights right?? Actually i prefer manual gear more... hahaha. but auto is fine too. but a bit more expensive.

about the car loan, how does it goes?? i thought its like just go down, get the car, pay for the 1st installments, and the paperworks, then just carry on installments every month???

so what is this loan thing??? can tell me more??
i'm quite new to buying new car. cos i'm only driving family car all the while only.

my fren who works in Honda tells me that indeed though without rules on downpayment, u end up actually more in the sum total for the car. Of cos the no-downpayment for some people is a plus cos they dun wan to committ a lump sum which of cos gives them some liquidity...

so its up to u all to decide whether its worth it.

if there isnt a need for you to drive, please save up before you buy a car. treat it as the downpayment is still there. of cos govt come out with this idea is not to suffer loss but profits instead.
i dont see why u shld be paying more as compare to the past.
do hv some savings lets say about 30k and then u can pay the rest with installment.

but if u die die also wanna get a car... ok.. one recommandation or maybe two.

toyota 1.5 or nissan sunny 1.5..... both are in term and comsumption consider one of the best in town....

Well just a few suggestion, since u r buying a new car, why don't you go for some new models that had just hit the road. U can consider these 2 if you like, as both of them are below $80k. The new Honda City 1.5, Honda Jazz 1.4 or the new Mitsubishi Colt 1.5. Don't know abt the performance of these 2 cars though but Mit and Honda are pretty good cars, esp Honda.

Anyway if u wanna stick to the popular saloon, my personal feeling is as such:
Look sporty: Subaru Impreza
Performance: Should be Toyota Corolla (not 100% sure cos didn't drive most of the car b4).
Value for money: Toyota Corolla & Nissan Sunny

If u wanna mob the car a bit, go for the subaru.

Yes its true that dun ever go for 10 yrs installment, not worth for the car. Try to cut it down to as short as possible. Maybe 7 yrs the worst case.

for first timer - i strongly recommend Toyota or Nissan:

Simply becos u need a reliable car to learn and experience.
for 1.5 manual, I believe
toyota - 75k
nissan - 70k

the rest may look good but maintenance may pose a problem after a few years.

heard that toyota celica is abt 95k now.....2door 4seater

Don't think Celica is only 95k that cheap. impossible. from what i know, OTR price is around 125k. around there. but the price indeed has drop a lot for celica.

A Celica SS1 will cost you ard $102k now and $112k for a SS2.

The lowest that I know of a SS1 (as in real buyer, not on paper only) is a S$99,800/-.

absolutely right u said...unless u r driving the car for the entire 10 yrs...or u r very loadedwith $$$...suggestion is to get a used 1-2 yr old car...
if u get a new car now and decide to sell it a few yrs later...u will realise u lose alot at one shot...esp now...new car dealers r offering 10yr loan...u r "forced" to use the car for the whole 10 yrs...doesn't sound very nice to me...

although e down-payment rule is removed but then do u knw if u buy a new car n in which when u 1 2 sell it in future,u gonna fork out money to sell it which is more unworthy! unless u r v sure dat u can reli stick to e car for a long time…
