Many Singapore Drivers are trained in Basic Driving, getting the
driving license after six to twelve months, and are put out on the
road, to face the traffice in real life with all the accompanying
dangers and being a danger to other road users.
The "Triangle" Sign is left to mark his "passage" for the first
twelve months of his driving, and no further instructions are given
to the New Driver.
Will it not be advisable for further advance driving skills in
stages of Intermediate and Advanced Traing be taught?
An Intermediate Defensive Driving Skills Course over a period of 14
to 30 days, can take the form of teaching the "New Driver" to be
alert - not by simply paying attention to the immediate
surroundings, BUT also to anticipate events.
This course can be done by Virtual Computer Aided Equipment, much
like what the SAF Driving School is using.
Advance Driving Course can teach the "Intermediate Skill Driver"
how to improve his driving skills to overcome emergency situations
- such as getting out of a skid, avoiding serious collissions, part
of the training from "evasive driving skills".
The Advance Driving Course can be taught by Computer Aided
Equipment, with practical driving to put the skills into real
experience behind the wheel and in actual skid situation.
Similar course can be conducted for the two wheelers as well.
This could make the Singapore roads safer for all users.
