I got the fire to do some serious rebuttals here ... haa so hear
me out
1) Maid abuse. True. Singapore's maid abuse cases have risen over
the months and years. Cases of Employer-maid conflict are commonly
seen and reported in the newspapers. However, it must be noted that
this cases are not solely present in Singapore. News about maid
abuse in United States or in Europe can also be found in our
newspapers. Just because we've seen alot of such news show that
Singapore has the worst "maid abuse" situation in the whole world.
It is obvious that newspapers in Singapore will reflect more about
local news and less about let say maid abuse in Africa.[what does
that have to do with us?]. There are far more kind of abuses like
child, drug, ... abuses or even racial discriminations eg: bombing
of Australia Chinese restauants a few months back. You don't see
this in Singapore don't you? The media buzz over such abuse cases
show that there is significant amount of concern Singaporeans over
such abuses. If we are so immoral and afraid of showing these
abuses, the media shouldn't report it in the 1st place.
Furthermore, just because you see a few abuse cases on the
newspaper doesn't mean every family in Singapore is abusing their
maid everyday.
2 and 3. Singaporeans like to show off and talke [email protected][email protected]#. That is
pretty objective isn't it. Some people are, some people are not. If
you can talk so much but you can't seem to produce evidence to back
yr words. Then either you showing off your empty vessel or you love
[email protected]#[email protected] =D no offence.
4. Afraid to admit mistakes. I admit as a Singaporean, we make
mistakes. Well what else you got to say? I just undermined your
statement.
5. Copycats. True many shows ini Singapore are a copy of oversea
programs. Pyramid Game, Singapore idol, Wheel of fortune, and some
chinese variety shows are copied. But look around you. Malaysia
idols. World idols. Many countries do copy variety programmes. ARe
they all copycats? Are we living in a world of copycats? The thing
is these are just shows used to raise the entertainment value of TV
broadcasting shows. If you don't like it, just shut off your
TV.
