You are wrong to say Austrialia society is narrow-minded &
bigoted just because of some govt policies.
OH? u have another word for policies that infringes human
rights, disregards compassion and rooted in the selfish interests
of politicians to get re-elected?
so enlighten me... what do you call them?
i do not judge a society by the actions of their government. by at
the same time, pple get the governments they deserve since they do
get to vote.
Westerners are most liberal about sex.Probably some of our ppl
here copy their sexual values & lifestyles.
bollocks... thats like saying all asian men are short and all
asian women have small feet.
and i object to what u term "westerners". europe is more liberal
than america in issues regarding sexual norms. but if u went down
to the "Bible Belt" in the states, u'll be shocked at how
conservative they are.
at the same time, the state of Massachusetts has legalized same-sex
marriages.
u just displayed an outright ignorance of "western" societies. u
must've been watching too much t.v.
and what makes u think that ASIAN societies ALWAYS had a
conservative attitude towards sexual norms?
when white men first set foot here in southeast asia, one of their
observation was that the women had a great deal of sexual
autonomy.
"norms" are socially defined. there is nothing "natural" about
them. certain worldviews exist today not because they were "right",
but because they were IMPOSED...
it does not mean that it was ALWAYS like that, it does not mean
that this new "norm" is "better" and it does not mean that norms
cannot change.
Australia PM wants to amend the law to define marriage as
heterosexual union.By doing so,homosexual ppl would probably not
like it.Why would he want to do it?Readers, pls think!
because he wants to win votes from ignorant, conservative voters
who outnumbers gay voters?
.
politicians makes decisions based on raw numbers; polls, surveys,
probabilities... not because certain decisions are more "correct"
than others. it is only "correct" insofar as it is popular. THAT's
politics for u.
