historically speaking, homophobia is a western import. southeast asian societies did not traditionally see homosexuality as "wrong" or "unnatura" until the coming os world religion and imperialism.

Although many western states has allowed homosexual marraige, some of them still shun away. Here in Singapore due to our culture, homosexual is perversion by many hetersexual.However as the society become more modernized, and individuals becoming more educated and chaning mindset, more homosexual are moer willing to admit and display their relationship.

I personally think that I wont object to it as long as homosexual does not cause social problems to the public.

Homosexuality is neither right nor wrong. It is a lifestyle choice that needs to be respected.

One person likes chiken rice. Another likes rojak. Who is right and who is wrong?

From the perspective of religions like Islam or Christianity however, homosexuality is a sin. But not everyone is Muslim or Christian.

Civil laws therefore should not be biased against homosexuality because of religious baggage.

er....... most homos i've heard about would claim that their actions are due to "natural instinct" and they're borned that way

cx's points aren't particularly persuasive since like you , they involve the same things over and over again but your comments are pushing more people to his side since you're mostly asking for people to prove themselves right instead of you proving them wrong in a matter which up till now cannot be proven by science

ah... not "beliefs"... but HOW beliefs and values came about...

and because of this process, i come to see that beliefs and values should not be seen as absolutes and black vs. white, but relative to historical origin and relative to present day context.

To those who claim that homosexuality isn't natural, you should realise that even in nature, there are many, many examples of homosexuality between animals - it's not an unusual occurrence at all.

That said, I personally have nothing against gay marriages. In fact, I'm all for it. Given how hetreosexuals have increasingly diminished the sanctity of marriage in modern times, and to have a group of people who are fighting so hard for these same rights to be legally bound together.... well there's something to be said about it. But then again, I'm an idealist - as long as two people love each other enough to want to make that life changing promise of commitment to each other, they should be allowed to marry and be recognised as a union of two people.

But we live in a society that is largely still very conservative - look at the problems with gay marriages in US! It isn't going to happen in Singapore. Not in our lifetime.
