13th Month Bonus - Not Longer Fixed and Guaranteed !

The Government has endorsed the wage model recommended by the taskforce.

The taskforce suggests that for blue-collar or rank and file workers, 70 percent should be basic wage and the rest variable.

For white-collar workers or middle management, the variable component should be higher at around 40 percent.

And for senior management, whose performance is more closely linked to company performance, it should be split 50-50.

Perhaps the same Flexi-Wage Policy should also be applicable to the Government Ministers, Ministers of State, Ministers WITHOUT Porfolios, Permanent Secretaries, Members of Parliament, and other Heads of the various Government Services.

The more SENIOR the position, the greater cuts should be made to cover for the hardship that were not anticipated.

If the Working Singaporeans are expected to embrace such a policy, then the Government should also set the pace.

The pockets of the working class has always been considered as an unoffical reserve, first-resort buffer to shield Singapore's economy from the bad effects of her economic planner's myopic visions which pays little heed to their effects on the common person, which makes up most of the part of this machine.

While the citizen's pocket can be dipped into again and again, I wonder what is being done to stem the flood of these bad ideas and policies that got us into these in the first place? Or has the upper leadership been always interested in advancing Singapore for economic gain, but with her common people enjoying little share in the pie and are forced to subsist most of the time on crumbs from the rich man's table and break the fall for them when things get bad.

Unless the HR policies and practices of an employer are truly 'fair' to its respective employees, I dun see much help in how the recommendations can help businesses and companies to improve profitabilty, after which all the deserving employees will then be assured of the fair share of reward.

And to rely merely on a percentile figure standard across all salary ranges?

So how that interpret into?

A clerk who earns a gross monthly salary of $800 plus gets only rewarded with an assured miserable sum of $560 while the remaining $240 is likely to be given at the whims and fancy of the employer?

Come on...

Have a heart.

The bulk of this low wage earners belong mainly to population cluster characterised by age range above forties and receipients of only either primary or secondary schooling level.

These group are already struggling to cope after the recent CPF cuts and now the recommendations wants to have their remaining untouched 13 month bonus slashed even further?

Why not think in THEIR interests and for once, attempt something that can lift off some financial burdens on them instead of piling on more rocks onto their already haunched back?

Why don't the recommendation include an extra line that says 'For wages in range under $2000/= a month, the bonus amount shall remain as at current, and which will be the full sum of the salary'?

Why wasn't this last line being penned in?

By having 'this last line being penned in' - the Employers will have their hands tied.

With the GLC being the largest employer in Singapore, will such a clause be allowed into an agreement that will only constrain any future options of the employer ?

I think that this 13th month bonus thingy is juz a term which doesn’t justify it.Here’s why: lets say u earn $1000/month-~~>1 year u earn 1000×12=$12000, as we all know in 1 year there are approx 52 weeks in a year.So if you count yr pay per weekly $250/week~~—>250×52=$13000(this is what you should rightfully earn w/o the 13th month bonus yet)
