Yo..
Just felt tat it will be more interesting if we put down the pros
and cons of 1 party rule into point form. It will make it more
easier for others to understand the situation
Time to time I will update (using edit) the list
according to the replies here. I will start off here first
then,
PROS
1. Gov can make tough decision if it is a one party nation such as
GST rise and reducing CPF contribution. One party rule means more
control and less time to make a decision in tis rapidly changing
world
2. Singapore is a small nation, weak in power, land and influence.
Competition has stiffened among countries recently and Singapore is
caught in a bad shape due to regional problems and terrorist
threats. Our primary concerns should be on survival and not higher
level of needs such as beliefs in freedom etc
3. Though Gov related companies r controlled by Gov, they r at
least big enough to go global like Singtel etc. Most private
companies in Singapore r too small to be of any significant.
4.
CONS
1. If Gov make bad decision, tat is it. No other control mechanism
to audit Gov action. Mistakes will be covered up and make unknown
to public. Single party Gov listen lesser to alternatives
view
2. Feeling of being suppressed by single party Gov. Action toward
opposition make citizen fearful of repercussion of speaking against
Gov freely.
3. If 2 political parties present, more intellectual conflict and
exchange could take place. A strong and positive development may
result from such action
4.
PS : I will try to be as fair to both sides as possible. If people
r against the points above, please reply to it.
