i guess a sporting activity has many levels of participation...
at the top, u have the race organisers, the stable owners, the
trainers, the jockey.
horse racing is a celebration of the ancient union between man and
beast. the domestication of horses was an important event in human
history... it also enables barbarian horsemen to conquer more
settled civilizations...
ask any jockey or equestrian and they'll tell u how powerful and
fun it is to ride on a horse...
of course the pple at the top work tirelessly to keep the sport and
the spirit alive. it shouldn't surprise anyone that the stable
owners, the trainers and the jockey make lots of money in the
process...
and the other level of participation is the level of spectators,
bookies and punters.
as mentioned by Bear earlier, pple will bet on ANYTHING if u give
them half a chance... its the pple, not the sports.
and i think this has nothing to do with the recent loosening of
restrictions... they're all superficial and inconsequential
anyway... the gov't is still its former anal self when it comes to
many things.
