Even when MALAYsia was in the FPDA, they withheld permission for our RSAF Rescue Helicopters to take a direct route through Johor, and to the South China Sea on a air-sea rescue mission.

A RAF Helicopter had an accident during a FPDA exercise, and there was an urgent need for an air-sea rescue helicopter to help in the search for a missing pilot.

By the time Kuala Lumpur MINDEF Ops Room finally gave the "OKAY" for our aircraft to fly into MALAYsia air space, it was already 20 hours later.

The RSAF Helicopter took the longer route that detoured the south Johor tip, and had already arrived into the theatre of operation in the South China Sea.

The hope of ever finding the pilot of the crashed helicopter was getting dimmer by each passing minute; and it took our RSAF Helicopter a longer detour time of an additional 3 hours.

They not only screwed us with their deliberate unfriendly attitude, but had also screwed UK, Australia and New Zealand Armed Forces.

At the end of it all, they screwed themselves most of all.

Vietnam not really that far.... Can transport their troops by land an by sea. We have a lot of Land-Ship Equipment you know. By land, they go thru cambodia, and Thailand.

Vietnam is not exactly an Ally, but a friend. We help them, and they would help us. According to a buddy of mine, the vietnamese feel rather indebted to us.

President Tran Duc Luong visited Singapore in March 1998, and in turn, President S R Nathan became the first Head of State from Singapore to visit Vietnam when he made a State Visit in February 2001. As an indication of the strength of this commercial relationship, Singapore remains the largest investor in Vietnam, having made cumulative investment of US$7.26 billion by end 2001. Singapore also ranks consistently as one of Vietnam's most important trading partners. The Vietnam-Singapore Industrial Park and the Vietnam-Singapore Technical Training Centre in Binh Duong province are concrete symbols of the close cooperation between the two countries. Other than working closely together in ASEAN, Vietnam and Singapore also cooperate closely in other fora such as ASEM, APEC and FEALAC.

Singapore is also honoured to play a role in Vietnam's human resource development. Since 1992, more than 2500 Vietnamese have received training in Singapore under the Singapore Cooperation Programme in areas such as healthcare, environment, finance and trade, productivity, public administration and English language training. In February 2002, Singapore formally established the Vietnam-Singapore Training Centre in Hanoi, with a focus on capacity building for Vietnamese officials. Singapore has also been providing scholarships to Vietnamese students to pursue academic courses including, among others, the ASEAN Secondary Three Scholarships, the Singapore Scholarship (undergraduate studies) and the NUS' Master in Public Management and Master in Public Policy Programmes (post-graduate studies

While Vietnam may value the many economic and educational support that we have given to them, it is unlikely that they will provide any military support in the event of any outbreak of war between Malaysia and Singapore.

Vietnam is a poor and war weary country, having been in various fights for almost all of their history - first against the 1000 years rule from Beijing, then against the Japanese during WW2, and against the returning French Colonial Rulers, and against USA for the reunification of North and South Vietnam (from the early 1960's till 1974), and their continued internal struggle to bring psychological unification and acceptance of the South Vietnamese - the battle is ongoing and remain uncompleted.

It will also be unlikely that the other member countries of ASEAN will come to the rescue of Singapore.

However, as members of ASEAN, they will put tremendous amount of pressure onto Malaysia to stop them from putting any agressive pressure against Singapore.

In fact, with the military success of the SAF in fighting any agressive move by the MALAYsians Government aka Militant UMNO aka Bumi (Sons FROM the Pile of Soil), the member countries of ASEAN may make strong appeals to Singapore to hold back the SAF, and stop any further military moves that may see our forces sweep into Putra Jaya - (the new town created for the MALAYsian Seat of Government) - and force the MALAYsian Government to operate from Batu Caves.

Is Vietnam a Singapore ally? Even if that is the case, they can't be a great help. They won the vietnam war because the Americans do not how to fight in the jungle. On the top of that, the Americans are out numbered. Look at the1979 China-Vietnam war, China won. The reason is simple enough.

Besides that, I think no country in South East Asia has the ability to launch a war against another without bearing the full consequences of the UN. Look at Iraq now. In this realistic world, only that Big 5 (US, UK, China, Russian and France) can talk about wars. If any country has the audacity to launch a war today, I can guarantee one of the Big 5 or even all the Big 5 will get involved, and the country that launch the war will definitely lost, if the country that launch the war is one of the Big 5, than it will become world war again. Small or medium countries don't even stand a chance to win. Even with a combined forces of all ASEAN members, the answer is, .........not a high chance to win.

So I think everybody can seat back and no need to worry about Malaysia NS, because it is their business, they can't do anything with their army anyway. Besides that, whether the people there will support it or not is also the problem the government there facing.

We are not exactly allies. But think about it this way. If Singapore goes, there goes their largest investor. And thats just the investments, not to mention the help we render them with rebuilding their economy and infrastructure.

With help from the Thais, we can move the Vietnamese friends down, to northern M'sia easily.

Currently, Vietnam has 482,000 regulars, and over 4 million in reserve. Its a lot of help.

It is EXTREMELY unlikely that any ally of Singapore would intervene militarily on our behalf, particularly Vietnam. This would require force projection capability, which Vietnam completely lacks. Do you realize how hard it is to transport *millions* of people? Then add in their weaponry, equipment and logistics. Then think how we are going to feed and house them. Then consider the fact that we have not trained with them and imagine the fuckups if they were to try to "help". No.

The only "ally" that is able and likely to intervene is the USA, since they actually do have power projection capability. Those carrier battle groups are the greatest power projection platforms in the history of mankind! Whether or not they would be willing to help is something completely different. The USA is a very fickle ally.

What is more likely is that some other regional power would "backstab" a foe we are fighting. This is particularly tempting because Singapore is so strong that we are sure to distract them. Thailand might decide to snatch some territory while Malaysia is occupied trying to fend off the SAF. East Timor (which currently loves us a lot!) might decide to settle some old scores with Indonesia (and become simply "Timor" ) while we are engaging the bulk of their armed forces. Malaysia and Indonesia might even decide to take bites of Borneo from each other, depending on whom we are fighting (if it isn't both of them, and maybe even if). Being a regional doomsday machine means that you attract vultures.

However, in the end, we CANNOT and MUST NOT count on the support of any nation in the case of war. We have to be prepared to fight to the end on our own if necessary. Not even the UN may save us, though this is EXTREMELY unlikely. So we have to be prepared for anything.
