With continued introduction of electric cards, ppl are becoming
more environmentally friendly. However, the practicality of it is
still limited, seeing that only the european union, US and other
developed nations have adapted most of their gas stations with
electric charging facilities.
However with the launch of newer models of hybrid cars such as the
new honda civic, this turns us to the question of why (if
technology is already more than capable of bringing us to a
fuel-free age of movement) we are still dependent on liquid fuel to
power our engines?
After all, the 1300cc honda has self-charging battery cells and
actually made the trip from thailand to s'pore (over 2000km) on a
single tank in an attempt to set a new record. Where speed is not
the essence, clean cars like the honda and toyota hybrids can and
shd be the cars of today, not tomorrow.
Of course our current infrastructure is unable to support this and
the dramatic shift from petrol to electric is gonna means hundreds
of lay-offs for the oil industry.
Even now, they raise prices in the face of OPEC's reduction in
prices...a situation that was already highlighted by CASE but to no
avail.
The probable truth is that no one, not even the govt is prepared to
endorse CASE's attempt to boycott all gas stations, fearing a
political and manpower backlash from oil giants shell and
exxonmobil among others.
