that is not a bad idea,at least we are different from most nation who follows US trend of making the attack helo part of the army body.

Anyway dont worry u will get to see it sooner than expected since mindef requested US for early delivery back to singapore and the response has been quite positive.

Never neglect our oldies just bcoz there are equipment out there in the SAF. Want to spit on an AMX-13? if you can withstand it's blast then you're fit to spit on it Mr. Green .

Armor troopers have alot of pride in their vehicle you know (okay, maybe not all ) ... although it can suck alot, but we maintain it, service it, load ammo on it, shoot with it and break/fix it's tracks.......... no one can do it better than us...

In my opinion, a suitable turret could be any of these:

1. Textron Stringray II

2. Textron 105mm Turret

3. United Defense LP, M8 AGS

4. French Giat TML 105mm (as used by the AMX-10RC)

5. General Dynamic LS Turret as used by the Spanish ASCOD APC (like the Bionix)

This has a low profile turret where only the gun is exposed. The gunner and the commander sit within the chassis like the M113 Ultra 25mm turret.

6. Italian LRF 105mm turret (used by ASCOD)

7. ASCOD 105mm turret

8. Vicker Mk.3M Turret

These are but just a few suggestions...

It doesnt matter to Singapore whether the apaches belong to Army, RSAF, or RSN. Cos the SAF is supposed to fight as a combined force, and not as individual forces. Which means, the Big boss "bombarder" general, which me-sa thinks, will get any Big Boom Boom he wants, regardless the service.

Other than the "jar jar binks" part, the rest is what was told to me by a senior ranking officer i happen to know. So I won't argue with him. =)

Thanks Joe Black for the pictures! The SAF Armour family will really be much more powerful after acquiring anyone of these monsters! I am a tank commander myself,this is in response to recoil. Well if you think the Bionix is cramped? Wait till you try out the SM1 !!! The BX in my opinion is huge! I think all the tankees out there can agree with me,yes? Well I think that the SM1 is unsuitable for modern warfare as it is simply too old despite the upgrade in the 80's. However, I do have great pride in being a tankee! The SM1 is not all useless though.The accuracy of the old 75mm main guns is still pretty impressive,despite the fact that alot of the firing procedure is manually done. Gentlemen we have touch mainly of the replacement for SM1 but what about the other vehicle which I have mention earlier? Please comment,Thanks Smile

I was told that the Apache was bought using the fund allocated for the army coz it a platform use for supporting the ground force. This reulted in some of the army procurement plans to KIV.

Any information on any new anti-aircraft missile systems being bought recently? I guess the missile launcher vehicle is used for AA purposes but I can't be sure. Any comments on a missile launcher on a M113? Smile

Don't know if SAF has any M113 armed with some sort of SP Air arty. It wouldn't be a bad idea. My ideal choice would go to the LAV-AD turret, with the GAU-12/U 25mm and Mistrals combo.

The missile launcher on the the M113 is definitely not a RBS 70 system. Its not the mistral either. It looks somehow like a rapier type of launcher with a small radar dish and two sets of missiles on each side of the machine. I think there is at least 2 on each side but can't be sure. Smile

Gentlemen, personally I chose the Textron 105mm turret over the rest of the pictures mentioned earlier. That is provided that the new light tank uses Bionix as the chasis. What are your views? Smile

The Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) plans to purchase four mine sweepers to replace its ageing 'Mahameru' class mine sweeper.

Navy Chief Mohd Ramly Abu Bakar said on Monday the purchase would depend on the country's financial position although the life span of the 'Mahameru' class mine sweeper had almost lapsed.

"The existing mine sweeper had been in service for nearly 15 years. Maybe we'll do conversion and after conversion, the ships can be used for another 15 years," he said.

Mr Mohd Ramly was speaking to reporters after attending an international seminar on Mines Counter Measure in Kuala Lumpur.

Some 60 navy officers from foreign countries are attending the seminar, which will end on Wednesday.

The 'Mahameru' class mine sweeper bought from Italy in 1983 was the first in Southeast Asia with anti-magnetic features which reduces the possibility of the mine sweeper from exploding when passing through a danger zone.

Could it be something similar to the Avenger system? Stingers mounted on a M113 chassis? The Crotale, from what I recall, has a similar profile as well, but both are quite unlikely. From what you said, its either a Rapier (Dun think the M113 will remain upright after launching one), Barak (I only know they launch in a vertical profile), or Stinger/Igla.
