Unit & Infantry Armour - wats the difference?

junkster1x SG

hi all,

..the subject says it all...
but does Unit include (Singapore Armoured Regiment) SAR? ..
...if yes then what abt Infantry Armour?
..School of Armour has IA but Unit Armour is not inside SOA? ...

what are the different tasks/jobs dat seperates these two? then again, what are the same tasks that bond them together?

i'm totally confused. can someone enlighten me on this/anything Armour related? thks!

littlest things dat matters much.

SOA is the Armour version is SISPEC/OCS. It's basically only a school.
It's where you go for the Armour conversion course to earn the black beret.

Graduates of SOA with be posted to an Armor Unit(SARs)

An Armor Unit consist of two types of Armour formation:
The Armor Infantry AI (not IA) and the Tanks.

AI uses APCs like M113/Bionix. It's bascally infantry (7 man section) with a APC, driver and Vehicle Commander. They use armor assaults...just like infantry except that they've got more fire power and the APC to back them up.

Tank are AMX-13/SM1 tanks. It acts as fire support for AI. Consist of the driver, gunner and Vehicle Comm.

In SOA, you either become an AI of tankee trainee. So after you post out to your unit, you will be either AI or tankee in that unit depending on which vocation you'll be trained on.

Outstanding trainee might stay back in SOA as instructors.

SARs are active/NS units. They are the one that will fight in the war.

All this, SOA, SARs are all part of a bigger organization call the ARMOR FORMATION.

Depending whether you are a OCT or Specialist, SOA is hell......not to scared you but it's real HELL......worst than suspec/OCS.....but it's all to train the guys to be alert....armor is no joke and are quite accident prone...But it's only after you get to your SAR then you can kiss your trainee days goodbye!

Once Armor, Always Armor........Welcome to the family!

i see..... dat was very informative. thks!

another question... strangely i was posted directly to Khatib camp, Armor Unit..(also known as SAR?) ..straight after my BMTC.. so in which, i skipped SOA in the proccess right?

so how does this go about? Commanders in SAR more shiong than those in BMTC i guess??

Silenthunter SG

hmmm...........

from the way you discribe, I don't think you are going to an armor unit. Khatib camp have no SARs. But they do have SAs (Singapore Artillery).

So most probably, you are posted to a SA Arty unit. I think your SOA might be referring to "School of Artillery".

Well, if you din go sispec/OCS, most probably you will be just a soldier. But you din go SOArty so you might not be an Fire Ociffer(FO) runner. I guess you might become a soldier in an arty battery or their HQ? (are you a downgrade?)

Dun worry, BMTC instructors are Devils, SISPEC/OCS instructors are Demons, instructors of watever combat conversion course (armor, guards, etc..) are Diablos. But Unit commanders are not instructors, most of them are much better(unless you unlucky get a yaya one)

BTW: khatib seems to have a reservist unit....not very sure but you might be posted there too.

Correct me if I'm wrong. All Armour Units do mono-intake. If you are going from BMTC to Armour most likly you will be in logistic or service in Armour.
