In the good old days when the government looked after people,
when you could keep less than $500 in your POSB account, and when
hospital fees were heavily subsidised, the prime concern of
hospitals was to cure sick people quickly and cheaply.
Now, there is a conflict of interest between the patient, or
client's interests, and the hospital's interest in making profit as
a business. As such, hospitals may be tempted to give unnecessary
expensive treatments and medicines to rich people, and to not treat
people who cannot afford to pay.
