Actually the list is not surprising. Like attitude mentioned,
the list is compiled based on the results of the long hu bang, so
popularity naturally accounted for a big part of the list.
It's like that everywhere, anyway. Msia awards recently gave Penny
Dai 9 awards. She is good, but can you imagine her getting 9 awards
in Singapore or Taiwan? Harlem and Guang Liang won too, the former
sang a Msian composition, and the latter is, well, a Msian.
HK is no better. Some years ago, there was bound to be at least a
song from each of the Heavenly Kings in the annual TopTen.
Obviously, they were in there as they had huge supporting base and
the TV stations could garner support for the event from their fans.
Despite saying that, they are always willing to give others a
chance, Hacken always manages to squeeze in with some thing
too.
Taiwanese awards sound the most "fair" to me among all the Asian
awards, though it is so localised that one outside of Taiwan will
ask who some of the winners are. Xiu Lan Ma Ya? Ji Xiao Jun?...You
get the drift.
