Problems adjusting to Uni life?

Hi guys,

Its my first year at NUS, and i have problems making friends...

I didn't attend the orientation camps or stay at hall (working at that time), and now everyone have their own clique of friends whilst I am mostly alone in school with no one to talk to. I tried joinging some CCA's but the people aren't very friendly. Last sem was quite bad and I became quite depressed...

Anyone been through a similar situation? How do I broaden my social circle in school and make more friends? =(

Sorry to hear what you've been through. I'm a first year at NUS too and though so far I have been blessed to be around nice people, I have been through my fair share of tough times and depression during JC and in that aspect, I guess I can empathise a little with what you are going through.

Personally, I found joining CCAs like NUS Community Service Club a great experience as I got to meet many kind and friendly people there. I also found helping others and doing small things for them useful in helping me to build good relationships.

Sometimes, little things like a smile or a simple "how was your day" goes a long way...

Regardless of what your problems are, you are not alone.

If you don't mind, I'd love to have the chance to meet up with you for a chat over a nice meal in school sometime. PM me if you're interested! :D

You have to take the initative to converse with others during lectures…But don’t worry too much like what others have said, the important thing is to score a great gpa to secure you a decent job in the future..Friends can be helpful but are not as important as your studies…don’t let this affect your grades
