Like you, I am a pretty emotional person myself and I find that
emotions are something that you can never hide because it is a gift
to us; it's just part of our nature. The harder you suppress it,
the more painful it gets.
What I do when I am upset, is to acknowledge that I am feeling
sad, bawl my eyes out in private and then have a good laugh at
myself. Because the most important attribute many of us lack, is
the ability to laugh and let ourselves loose. Most importantly,
learn to love yourself and you will accept your emotions
better.
Let yourself have some space when you are faced with a heated
situation. Excuse yourself and walk off. There is no need to answer
every question immediately. when you have calmed down sufficiently,
then provide a careful and concise response.
When someone is treating you unfairly, ignore what he is saying
and try to think of mundane things that happen throughout the day
while the guy is lecturing you. Like a shopping list you need to
get for your groceries, or retracing your route back to work in
your mind. If the person can't get an emotional response from you,
you are unlikely to lose control of your emotions.
Good luck!!
Yes, even now, I am still learning to control my emotions too. It
is just that it has subdued and not saying totally can control it,
but at least I am able to go away when it comes. Especially working
place, bad mouth, office politics, etc...
