My perception is that it is indeed a very good idea, and
strongly encourage more to volunteer their time.
I was once a confused child, angst filled rebellious teenager,
bewildered adult. But I was fortunate that I had a mentor at each
stage of my developement. However, I doubt if many others are as
fortunate as me.
Not that it made me a perfect person, for I am only human
and flawed, but there were questions that were answered with
honesty and sincerity and helped me alot.
The best councillors are the ones whom had suffered and
experienced pains before, and would thus be in the best position to
help others on how the issues started, developed, and the
resolution of it, thru the honest and sincere sharing of
experiences.
Another kind would be the highly educated, for they would have
access to perceptions and abilities not many would have a chance to
learn about. Education is not about making money, but elevating
one's mind above selfish ambitions and helping society along,
and how more than to spare an hour or 2 to help another? It would,
at times literally save lives.
Young or old, human lives are precious. More so our youths in
this confusing globalized world. We were kids once, and will have
our own kids one day, who may not listen to us, but to
their knowledgeable peers one day too.
The building of a better society and civilisation begins with
you and me.
If we dont help one another, who will help us? We are one
nation, one people - Singaporeans. We are one. It is for a
noble cause. Thanks to those who respond, and those whom are
considering, as well as those who would like to, but unable due to
circumstances.
Thanks.
PS: I am in no way connected to TS.
