If your child was dating a boy/girl of a different skin color.

let’s say if the boy is Indian skinned, but more Chinese than Indian as he’s mixed blooded, would you judge him by his skin color?

Or would you bother to find out more before discriminating?

True, SG is multi racial, but that doesn’t mean traditional parents would still react strongly against differently colored people.

i hate those racist people but i must admit i would judge the person by their skin first…....even though there are certain races i dont like but i find that not all of them are bad

I'm not a parent, but I wouldn't discriminate. People should not be judged by the colour of their skin but by the content of their character. (Brownie points if you know what was paraphrased there).

My parents said that racism will never end too. I guess its due to the kind of people of different color that they've seen in their life or the imbedded racism that was told to them since young.

Nope. In this day and age, color is no longer an issue. Tasmanian or Chilean also no problem. Most important factor is they're in love.

And the fellow has his head screwed on the right places, his heart in the right places and a good sense of self worth, integrity.

Racism will never end simply because people will never stop stereotyping. It is through stereotyping that we form our prejudices and racism is the most extreme form of prejudice.

Thus the only question to be asked here is to what methods can we limit such prejudice attitudes and thus promote tolerance.

I wouldnt discriminate but would still warn my children (they are mixed blood) that there could be obstacles and people into interacial marriages would have to work harder than usual to make their marriage work.

Busting stereotypes would be the key, definitely. But for the traditional parents of the respective parties to leave their streotypes at the door, the couple would really create a lasting impression if the different languages of their respective parties are learnt.

For example, consider an indian and chinese pairing. The indian could learn how to speak mandarin whereas the chinese could learn how to speak in tamil. That would definitely eliminate some stereotypes associated with both parties.
