Education & work..need serious advice

Hello, I am pretty frustrated & sad to say, I kept 'taking' O levels for the past 3 years. What do I mean by 'taking'? It means that I was not motivated enough to study for my subs as I had cash flow problems trying to myself to school. Maybe I could study on my own..but I am just not motivated already since I left school 3 years ago. In short, I was only buying the O levels exams for some 'relief' (like at least there's something to look forward to) Reason being, I didn't have a goal at that time.

Ok so now, I have a goal. I want to work in a kitchen making pastries & stuff. My F&N has always been the best in my secondary school. (I am always the first or second in my class..exams or otherwise) The thing is that..Could I take two diploma on that subject itself in two different schools? That means the same cert but is in two different schools. Is there a degree in pastry making? Or is it unnecessary for to take two certs with the same skills? Would the employer just ignore the other cert cause it's the same or would he be impressed?

Also, is there a future in it? Will I have enough money to feed myself throughout? Or do you think I should just take my O's & go through the normal education system? But even if I do, I'll just anyhow pass the subs. Besides I am already 20. A waste of time? Even if I am not interested in the sub or even O's anymore Sad

If F&B is your interest and you do well in it.

I say you go for the F&B path.

My take is, you don't waste your time and money in taking 2 courses with similar subjects. An employer will not be impressed with you having 2.

One good one is good enough.

What is most important in the F&B industry is your hands on experience. Textbook knowledge only serves as a fundamentals to what you can or should do.

Make sure you carve yourself a good track records, because this is important.

Hello thanks for the advice. No, what I mean is that after I finished the course, THEN I go finish the same course again but in different school Smile

What you need is not same cert in two different schools.

But different kind of cert in either same or different schools.

Either you go upwards meaning higher degree
or you expand sideways, meaning take on different kind of knowledge.

You are interested in bakery skills.
After learning this skills you should also consider taking culinary skills in different styles.

I hope the course you are considering also teaches you management skills, as this will help you move up in career.

YES, there are Degrees in Culinary Arts/Management.
I suggest you start researching this and consider what path will lead you to achieving your goal.

You don't need a degree to learn how to baker. It is a skill and it is what some says you have to be gifted or very experienced to be a great baker.

You do well in F&N which suggests that you have a talent in baking. Take a training apprenticeship to be a pattisserie chef/baker. Better that way.

It doesn't matter even if the whole world is turning left and you choose to turn right - seriously, it doesn't.

As long as your final destination is clear and the clarity also extends towards how you want to manoeuvre your life - that will do. But the bottomline is that you must be extremely clear about your route you are going to undertake and be focus in your path.

If you have already 'wasted' three years, I think the least you could help yourself is to avoid adding more years to the 'wastage'. I don't think you want to end up realizing that the path you opt to take is but some short-lived passion and drop out of it halfway through your journey.

and if he had enter ITE during his first fail attempt he might jolly be in a polytechnic now or preparing to enter a poly now

but if he is interested in cooking and stuffs like that should go shatec

and yes to TS there is a school that has diploma in pastry and baking

Hello, I was refering to a degree. Erm, have you read my post clearly? Because I already knew where to get those diploma. Besides shatec, there's also sunrice, bitc etc.

Hello, I think I'll skip ITE. Because my interest is baking & stuff so shatec (already enquired them) is perhaps more suitable for me.

Btw, I have to explained that I skipped my O's even though I paid for them..=/ So yes, it's a waste of time & money. [/b]

Actually, perhaps, unconsciously I have a knack for food already lol. I mean over the internet, most my nick had some names related to food or have something to do with food. Even my email, msn add, everything also have something to do with food Laughing Everytime I choose a clothing, accessories, whatever..I'll pick something food related

Perhaps I inherited this gene from my father? He's was an F&B manager.

So yes, it took me quite a while to discover that I had actually had interest in that area. I just need to sharpen it to make it better.
