Maybe I'm not cut out to be a nurse

Welcome to NUS?

CoolMyth SG

A good nurse is measured based on her actual performances in the wards, not results. Cool

Where Is God SG

Everyone can say that because everyone tries. That makes you just like everyone, and average you will be. So why are you disappointed?

Face it, trying alone is not enough. In the real world, performance matters, and not your efforts. You can put in all you have, but fail, and you still fail. You can put in nothing, get fantastic grades, and you'll still be fantastic.

Welcome to the real world.

ifish SG

i agree.. nothing to be disappointed about actually..

I just need to show the results rite? and everything will be fine

You are only not cut to be something when you dont want to be something.

A good nurse is one who show care and concern to the patient...someone who make the patients feel comfortable...grade is important in some case, for other grade isn't, especially a job like nurse Smile

I think grade is important as it determines how well you are in the subjects, it also determines if you can become a good nurse. Work hard!

ShrodingersCat SG

*cough*

I think besides the passion you have for vocation..
it is also important to know WHY you are not doing well

is it because you don't understand the question or instructions?
is it because you don't understand the topic?
is it because you don't remember the contents?

All these are very reflective on where your skills may be lacking. If it is because you don't understand the question, you must check is it because you are too impatient to answer it or is it because of your language? If you know where your weaknesses lie, then you can prevent mistakes made because of these by taking additional precautions.

Why am I saying this? it is because as part of a nurse job, these skills are very important as well. Imagine reporting a wrong complaint to the doctor, or administering wrong drug because you were unclear of the instructions?

Self reflection help you to become better. Grades are indicative but secondary. Make your mistakes during the time of your study, and that will minimise your mistakes when you finally come out to work.

so what ?

i only got 1 A throughout my poly course but now i'm working for 1 of the biggest company in my field.

Btw the module i got an 'A' for is my industrial attachment. Not to mention countless Cs and Ds. Laughing

Ionlytalknoaction SG

LOL,

I only have 1 question.
Why do a nurse need As and Bs????

It's best not to work in a discriminative environment like the banks or the place where your clinical instructor was working.

He is probably saving your life when he told you for a new career path.

blu_sky SG

Being able to do well in class, does not necessarily make one a good nurse, and the reverse is true. Work hard on your core subjects to graduate from your diploma course (i assume it is diploma), i am sure you can be a good nurse if that is what you want to be and you put your heart and efforts in that.
