well, why people are sad over end of relationship can be due to 2 reasons.

1) They have committed themselves to the relationship but still couldnt work out. so they feel sad.
2) The relationship has been ongoing for a long time. so got feelings liaoz. so if break up will feel sad. (this is call 'being human' =\)
