As far as I interpret, you have a crush on this colleague of yours
who just happens to get along with you pretty well. On the basis of
that, what's there to suggest you will possess him forever if you
didn't confess? Are you sure, if you didn't confess, the two of you
will still remain friends and stay in contact when you're 60? If
not, you'd lose him someday anyway (most probably when either of
you leave your current job and lose touch).
In fact, on the basis of that argument (where you'll eventually
drift as life takes the two of you on different paths) and looking
at this from a rational perspective, you've absolutely nothing to
lose - excluding the immediate awkwardness only if he
rejects your advances upon confession and he decides to
ignore you (and men are hardly as guilty of the ignoring syndrome
as women are) - if you confessed because you haven't got him in the
first place.
(In economic terms, this is a blatant example of a zero-sum game
where the opportunity costs are disproportionately tilted in your
favour because you haven't got anything to lose to begin with -
your perceived "loss" is merely an illusion stemming from your
worrisome self-fulfilling prophecy.) --> Ignore this part if you
haven't got a clue what I'm talking about.
More importantly, it's your life and only you can and should decide
how you want to live it. That said, I hope this isn't a phobia
conveniently used as an excuse to pass up on your chance to find Mr
Right each time you meet a man you fancy.
I think rejection is extremely hard to take... and may shatter
whatever little confidence TS has,
and I think men do ignore women too..
TS, maybe he likes you too?
My plan for you is to
1) to build up your self-esteem, you can try reading some self-help
books...
It's good in the long run too, as someone with low self-esteem
hurts his/her relationship unwittingly.
2) show a little more interest in him (maybe make some slight
seductive overtures)... and see how he reacts... since he's single,
he might just fall in love with you...
Hope tat helps..
