Actually, to replace BPLRT with buses, we just nid a new bus ter. buses at CCK int can use new ter & make room for LRT-substitute buses.

Hi mr busanalyser, we are discussing this topic because it is the latest transport news. I am afraid that you are not up to date with this. The authorities are discussing the various options as smrt has decided to find the best alternative. They are not demolishing it.

Why is it in this forum is because there is this option of replacing it with feeder bus services. So this being a bus forum, we are talking about bus alternatives to this bukit panjang LRT.

Seng Kang and Punggol are different cases as LRT is planned and built before the HDB flats. Thus they are very close to HDB flats and ridership is damn high. Bukit panjang is different case. LRT are built after flats are up. So land cannot be optimized to residents good effect. End up need connect 2 towns for higher ridership but still cannot capture enough ridership and lose money month after month. So your view of LRT being white elephant is not correct. Seng Kang has 2 cars LRT and Punggol will also have 2 cars LRT starting next yr. This speaks volume of high ridership. Cheers. Thanks.

Esp after DTL2... trains are bursting at its seams... This explains CCK platforms 3/4

The problem is maintenance... If ridership is always the problem 501, 502 and 505 will still be around...

Hi mr SMB128B, the last time I took for Bukit panjang LRT was before DTL came in operation. That time it was few people. Take note I was comparing against number of people at sengkang and Punggol LRT. Maybe that gives it a slightly tweaked impression. Thanks for highlighting that after DTL2, it was full of people. Not true. BP LRT has high ridership even before DTL2. Lot of people from BPJ took it to CCK for MRT transfer.

I would propose 972 to be extended to CCK via CCK Road to connect BPJ town to ITE, CCK Road which does not have a direct service.

Also 700 should be extended to CCK via CCK Road, CCK Way, CCK Ave 1, CCK Ave 3, CCK Way, CCK Interchange to connect Keat Hong to CBD and resurrect the loading on 700.

These five changes can replace BP LRT totally!!

343, 344 & 345 ran btw BP bus terminal to Petir Rd, BP Ring Rd & Saujana Rd respectively. We could re-use the routes & extend them to CCK.

According to sgwiki, the former routes 343, 344 and 345 originate from Bukit Panjang Bus Terminal and loop at Petir Rd, Bt Panjang Ring Rd and Saujana Rd respectively.

We could re-introduce them and have all the Bukit Panjang feeder routes (including 920 & 922) run to Choa Chu Kang, while transplant some routes at CCK over to BP or elsewhere...

There's gotta be a revamp of bus networks in CCK and BP, if we wanna replace the BPLRT with buses.

The original aim of BPLRT was to connect BPJ to the nearest MRT station, which was CCK. Over the years, more MRT lines were added, the newest being DTL, which originates from BPJ. Theoretically, it would render BPLRT a white elephant as the suburb now has a direct train line to the city.

When the BPJ feeder routes were cut, there was a mini hue and cry, which led to Route 920 coming into being. Later, Route 970 partially restored the broken links caused by the axing of Route 5. But it left Margaret Drive with only Route 32 until SBST introduced Route 122.

Yes but LRT doesn't cover that today. The route suggestions are for LRT replacement. CCK-BPJ services cannot be feeder. Two different towns. BPJ internal is covered by feeder 921G/W

There is always discussion that BPJ town is over-pampered, while CCK is not. I don't really think so.

If you see there are two major roads in BPJ that have many services, apart from that bulk of the flats are near ring road.

Bukit Panjang Road - 184, 187, 190, 700

Petir Road - 75, 171, 960, 963, 970

+ there is 176, 180, 983, 990 that touch just the junction of DTL2 MRT.

In terms of feeders there is 920, 922.

If you like at Senja, Segar, Fajar, Saujanya - there is only one trunk service 972 + LRT so I won't say the major part of BPJ is pampered.

Now let's look at CCK

Teck Whye - 190, 975, 985, 307, 308

Keat Hong/CCK West - 172, 300, 301, 308, 975, 983

CCK Way - 67, 188, 300, 301 + LRT

+ you have 302/307 at CCK to Yew Tee and 925/927 to Sungei Kadut/Mandai.

In addition at Phoenix you have 160, 180, 187

So I don't really know why people insist that BPJ is more pampered than CCK when CCK has MRT + LRT + so many bus services just like BPJ.

In fact, BPJ has many services passing by whereas for CCK, most services originate here

The routes of former Services 344 and 345 are more or less absorbed into the routes of current Services 920 and 922, so reintroducing them today will make them quite redundant instead.

I understand that several sectors of Bt Panjang Ring Rd had not been served by any bus services since the withdrawal of Services 344 and 345. However, I feel that introducing a new trunk service or amending an existing trunk service to serve stretches of Bt Panjang Ring Rd, including the sectors not served by bus services, may be a better option than introducing more feeder services to serve those sectors.

A resurrection of the former Service 179 may just be able to cater to that. An alternative option will be to restructure the existing Service BPS1 into a full day trunk service to provide the necessary connections between Choa Chu Kang and Bukit Panjang, since its existing passenger demand isn't ideal anyway.

Although now got Downtown Line, Bukit Panjang residents still take the BPLRT to Choa Chu Kang mainly because got lot one over there. When Hillion Mall opens next year, we can expect reduction of loading on BPLRT between CCK and BP, because Bukit Panjang residents won't go to lot one anymore.

By then, maybe a new bus route following BPLRT alignment is enough to replace the BPLRT, along with one or two new feeder routes at Bukit Panjang.
