anyway u give them money also for them to pay bills mah..

bills we pay include - housing, phone, computer, water and electricity, once or twice a yr also got wat TV licence la.. besides all this, we also have our own handphone bills to pay... not to forget.. insurance also... but that's once a yr.

i guess the singapore bubble has just burst....there was a time we were told as long as you are a uni grad, you will make it.....reality bites.....utilities will be increasing soon, not sure if you wanna assume that responsibility.....

as someone suggested, giving fixed allowance is best.....must speak to them and tie them to the agreement....tell them you got your own loans to deal with....lay down your law...so your pay is $1.3k...loans $350, then your transport and meals and others...show them proof of your repayment....i would give $300 to them period...one trick you can do is to give both of them at the same time and announce its their monthly allowance....

if they ask for more, let them understand that you got to save for your future too.....i think you are lucky if you can save a paltry $50 a month....sad isn't it, considering the propaganda we hear about how prosperous the country is...

Seriously, DO NOT give them money as and when they request for it. Just tell them that you will give them $200 each everytime u get your monthly pay. This will limit the amount of money you give them to $400 a month.

I am not against giving money to parents becos personally, I feel that it is just right for us to give money to our parents. After all, they have spent a lot to bring us up. But your parents' attitude is abit weird. I suggest you talk to them and try to make them understand that you can only give them money once a month.

I give my mum a few hundred each month but she saved it up for me. Both parents working so they dun need my money to pay for bills each mth.

I think you should provide for them in whatever way u can, while you still can..

When I was a kid and had heart problems, my parents pawned their engagement rings in order to get the money for me to see the doctor..

My parents practiced thriftness here and there so that they can give me pocket money to have a meal in the canteen in school.

I will buy the world for them if I can.

Money is secondary. What we 'owe' our parents, we can never ever repay them. What we can do is probably to make sure they live comfortably for the later parts of their life.

Seriously, the role of the parents naturally is to care for their children and try their best to give the best for their children. Not say, you are working full time leh.. Really, if your full time, then I guess you have to provide them.. And I really feel for you for not having a life. I can never live like that.. I guess you have to talk to your parents.. i agree...we have to do our part as children...but we also need to live a life as well..raise a family, pay the bills, etc etc...its a tough balancing act.

i wud say just try ur best in terms of giving them money, while making sure u have a decent standard of living urself..u dun have to account to anyone, as long as u noe its the best u can provide, u have alreay done ur part, n i tink ur parents have to be satisfied.

But if ur expenditure is mainly for 'zenging' the car, clubbing, betting, etc...and then saying that u dun have enuff to give to your parents...den my advice would be to take cover when it rains.. there's a chinese saying: "heaven got eyes to see".

Be thick skin.

But when you really earn big money, give yr parents a fixed sum every month. Must repay them no matter what.
Be firm and whenever anyone asks for a loan, say "no money". If you choose to lend, you must consider it gone.

then purposely drop the bread and scamper to grasp it with your both hands and stuff it in your mouth while looking pitifully at them.
Will work best if you can weep on demand when stuffing the bread in your mouth or scampering around.

think of earning more cash. if you are a grad, use your knowledge. think, what can you do to earn extra cash on top of your current job. to succeed, you must plan, aim and then work smart. but please dont do anything illegal or immoral.

OT slightly, For those of you whose parents are still working after you graduate, be bloody grateful.

It doesn't mean if your folks are in middle management and above, you can jolly well stroll along. Pay for the study loan by yourself and gain some independence.
