If I remembered, the "A" level class of 1993-1994 is also Dragon Year. Especially that time engineering was quite popular, and there are so many guys competi...

i am really terrified now. since the feb till now i've been hearing and reading all sorts of horror stories of a'level students scoring straight As but are still unable to get into their course. stories of people who do so badly they cant study in singapore.

perhaps it is because the a'level class of 2005-2006 belongs to the dragon year? so the competition is tough...?

do you think this trend might not settle down and instead continue with the a'level class of 2006-2007?

de_middle SG

just study & dun bother so much lor

I read in the papers of one woman complaining that her son is a straight A student and is not accepted in NUS medicine. My hubby said that it is likely because of Dragon's year competition.

I then highlighted this to my son to show him not to be complacent.

Having this knowledge is power. You are now aware what you must do.
I think there is not much point worrying. Instead spend that time in your study. What is important is you try your best. Sometimes, you don't have to score all As to have a bright future. Wink

tare SG

not to mention some scholars can't WORK at all... it's as if they used up all their brain cells to get those As....

mistyblue SG

can always study in overseas uni or go poly.

stellazio SG

its definitely the dragon year la.

Qex SG

2006 a'levels was for the dragon babies.

so hope this yr 2007, the dragons dun go and retake, if retake, walowe, im in deep shit already.

curryman SG

but FTs will keep on increasing

for the guys born in dragon yr and has to serve 2 yrs NS, most probably they would have to apply for the 2009 and 2010 intake. So the university for 2008 intake would be safer to apply for. whew, i can only console myself by saying that.

my tuition teacher student scored straight As and can't even get into accountancy! omg, thats like, my teacher was kinda stunned also. blame it on the dragon year. So if next time, never ever let ur kids be born in the dragon year, competition is much fiercer. gd lor, since some of them like dragon so much, dragon v fierce de mah, let them fight for uni places until they bleed.

Xiaozzhen SG

Dragons that retake not are so powerful dragons any more!!! Wink

Qex SG

but then again, the newspaper reports are 1 of the few isolated reports lah. my other friends got in with no problems. and in the reported articles, they opted for medicine, law, all that very prestigious faculty mah, the places so limited, and somemore the smartest people fight to go in there, of course with AAA can’t compete with AAAA mah. This is a case of “kiang jiu ho, mai gei kiang!!!”

teraexa SG

Dun need to worry.

Just go study hard and get your 4 H2 As + GP A (or A for KI if you are taking it). Then H3 get distinctions.

If you get to there, you do not need to worry so much liao.

Anyway just study lor. It is only the dragon batch parents kicking up a fuss lar. Remember what happened during 2000 PSLE? Complain maths difficult, science difficult etc. In the end I see the given qns I do not even think it's difficult. In fact I think 2001 PSLE maths even harder than their 'very difficult' maths paper.

Mostly isolated cases here and there. Some straight As but GP or CCA record or PW bad, uni will not accept, cos nowadays straight As not everything.

Whatever, just cast these distractions aside. Do your best can liao.

darkhour SG

x2!!!eh but sia la, the dragon year remains, will drop to our year leh!isit?but new syllabus...what happens to them arh?

teraexa SG

Dunno, then no basis for comparison lor and less pesky parents complaining again.

Bah after JC i still got 2 more years = 2 more chances to apply.

darkhour SG

2 years?NS arh lol...but wun it b applyin to the same year?i mean ur still applying places for 2 years ahead what

pqr SG

correct.
how does being scared will not help....

will only make thing worse....

aiglosicicle SG

hmm i dont understand what you mean. if you apply later while you're in ns, wont it mean you'll go uni one year later then if you applied the year you got your results.

soulwinner SG

Just do your best

EDIT: Wrong contents

Qex SG

dragon males wouldnt apply for 2008 university intake, cos they have to serve a minimum of a yr and a half or b4 being allowed to disrupt to enter university. So, most probbaly is 2009 or 2010. So no matter what, you have to make it for this yr a’levels. (me too). if not, caught in the dragon vicious competition will die jia lat jia lat.
