I have been asked to choose a colour that I would like to have as the common livery of buses in the Government Contracting Model, from the two colours - Red colour and Green colour - shortlisted by the LTA. To make a choice from the two colours, I considered the visibility, representation and uniqueness of the colours.

In terms of visibility, I feel that the colour of the bus should make the bus stand out from the surrounding, so that it is comfortable for the eyes to see. I feel that Red colour bus is easier to see than Green colour bus. In a place where there is vegetation everywhere (note: 'vegetation' here refers to trees and grass, not pubic hair.), there is green in the surrounding. If the bus is Green colour, it would tend to blend in with the surrounding. If the bus is Red colour, it would tend to contrast with the surrounding, since very limited vegetation and buildings today are Red in colour. Therefore, I feel that Red is the better colour.

In terms of representation, I feel that the colour of the common livery should represent the Singapore identity, since these are public buses on the public bus services in Singapore. Red colour has been related to Singapore since the early days when we were known as the "Little Red Dot". Red colour is one of the colours used on our National Flag and Crest. Meanwhile, Green colour is never used to relate Singapore in any way. Green is a colour that is foreign to Singapore and does not represent the Singapore identity. Therefore, I feel that Red is the better colour.

In terms of uniqueness, I feel that the colour used on the common livery should not be the same as the colours used on other vehicles, to avoid confusion. Otherwise, the colour used less frequently would be more appropriate. As far as I know, Red colour is used on Fire Engines, and Green colour is used on Army tanks. Army tanks are usually not on public roads, unlike the Fire Engines which are usually on public roads. As such, Green colour is less frequently used in vehicles on public roads. Therefore, I feel that Green is the better colour.

In conclusion, I feel that Red colour is the best colour for the common livery of buses in the Government Contracting Model. Although Green colour is more unique that Red colour, Red colour is more visible than Green colour, and it represents the Singapore identity.

From the Engineer's perspective, the colour used on the common livery on buses should be a poor absorber of heat, and a good reflector of heat.

By having a colour that is a poor absorber of heat and a good reflector of heat, this would ensure minimal amount of heat is gained by the bus, maximum amount of heat is dissipated by the bus, and minimal amount of air-conditioning is needed to cool the temperature in the bus.

When there is less heat in the bus, this reduces the chances of engines damaged due to over-hearing. By using minimal amount of air-conditioning, we can extend the life-span of the air-con chiller box (the one filled with gases which produces the cold air).

In this case, I feel that Green colour is better because it absorbs less heat than Red colour.

hahahahahaha.....didnt know that the surface heat can affect the performance of engine and caused engine to overheat?.... might as well dun use aircon, deploy non aircon buses.....

Still LTA own white colour and blue ribbon is the best. look at DTL train. nice color. maybe bring back the old sbs bus red and white will be better.

That truck slogan is pasted to show pride as truckies. It is not a professional sign, and thus should not be replicated for buses.

To replicate it for buses would be stating the most obvious. Imagine if our entire train system malfunctioned. We'd be left with only buses. Not many Singapore residents can afford their own transport, so they must rely on public transit. Otherwise, they'd be so stranded.

I know many passengers are what the transport industry calls "captive audiences" and should not be taken seriously, but I doubt LTA wants to rub salt into their wounds.

The last thing they want is for the motto to become the butt of jokes on SGAG or other social media.

At least LTA isn't replicating SMRT's 2 + 2 mottos as other statutory boards have.

I doubt they would spend extra painting buses in different colours. Maybe if there is a 50-50% vote but what are the chances.

Okay. This is revolutionary. I studied the vehicle license plates with the "SG" index mark and I found the method to find the suffix alphabet.

In the vehicle license plate,

There are 19 alphabets used for the suffix alphabet:

G, D, B, Z, X, T, R, M, K, H, E, C, A, Y, U, S, P, L, J, G, D, B, Z, X, T, R, M, K, H, E, C, A, Y, U, S, P, L, J.

The cycle of the suffix alphabets repeats after every set of 18 registration numbers.

The range of registration numbers in a set is 17.

After fourth digit reaches nine, use the second suffix alphabet after that as the fourth digit recycles to zero.

(Use the second digit to determine how many suffix alphabets are skipped.)

Steps to obtain the suffix alphabet for license plates with the "SG" index mark:

(Already tried, tested, revised and checked many times. This is accurate, if not almost accurate.)

First, find the first suffix alphabet that corresponds with the first digit.

Second, divide the code (second, third and fourth digits) by 17 and round up to nearest whole number (if not exact). Multiply whole number with 17 and subtract it with the code (second, third and fourth digits) and add 1.

Third, subtract 19 with the value obtained in the second step.

Fourth, use the value obtained in the third step to count for the suffix alphabet, starting from (if first digit is "1") / after (if first digit is "5") the first suffix alphabet found in the first step.

Example 1:

The registration number is 5016.

The code is 016, or simply 16.

"5" means first suffix alphabet is E.

16 / 17 ≈ 1

1 x 17 = 17

17 - 16 + 1 = 2

19 - 2 = 17

17th suffix alphabet after E is "K".

:. The vehicle license plate is SG5016K.

Example 2:

The registration number is 1083.

The code is 083, or simply 83.

"1" means first suffix alphabet is G.

83 / 17 ≈ 5

5 x 17 = 85

85 - 83 + 1 = 3

19 - 3 = 16

16th suffix alphabet from G is "S".

:. The vehicle license plate is SG1083S.
