Reasons:
- To provide fast access for CCK
residents and NSL commuters travelling to NTU, Jurong West and
Jurong Industrial Estate, bypassing the human-choked and
traffic-choked Boon Lay Interchange
- To provide direct access for Jurong West residents and workers in
Jurong travelling to CCK (where they can connect to NSL, BP LRT, or
bus 190 towards the city)
- To relieve traffic along PIE/KJE during peak hours (Currently
there's no bus service plying PIE/KJE between CCK and Jurong,
resulting in heavy car traffic at peak hours)
- To relieve traffic along Pioneer Road North (southbound during AM
peak hour, northbound during PM peak hour)
- To relieve burden along EWL between Jurong East and Boon
Lay/Pioneer, and along NSL between Jurong East and CCK
- To provide fast access for tourists travelling between Jurong
Bird Park and Singapore Zoo / Night Safari via a change at CCK
If LTA or SBST likes to maximise
catchment, it can even extend the route to Bukit Panjang via Teck
Whye Avenue so that Jurong West residents and Jurong workers can
have a direct access to Downtown Line (which is seldom crowded
while the EWL is packed to the brim), and residents living in Bukit
Panjang and Teck Whye can have a direct access to Jurong West.
While a direct service from CCK to Pioneer Rd / Jurong
Industrial Estate is indeed necessary (considering the huge number
of workers using NSL-EWL to Jurong), I don't think this will happen
on 194....
Another issue is, now that most JIS are shortened to Joo Koon,
most people will still need to transfer to MRT (at Pioneer) /
other services even with your suggested 194.
Even amending 256 to CCK (skipping Jurong West) may be a better
and more possible option IMO.
