I was browsing through the Beeline services on their website and
realised that Buona Vista/one-north area seems to have popular
demand. Hence I came up with these 2 suggestions:
Express 503 & Service 48 extension
https://www.google.com/maps/d/edit?mid=zvASY1AjT64M.khl2Z-60Dv98&usp=sharing
Express 503: Punggol - Buona Vista
Only operates during peak hours.
(Note: 503 plies Central Blvd in direction towards Buona Vista,
not Raffles Ave as seen in the map due to Google Maps' error)
- Direct service from Punggol and Sengkang East to MBFC, Shenton
Way and one-north
- As peak-hour express services may not start from
interchanges/terminals, can be shortened to start in Punggol West
and end at Buona Vista MRT if necessary
Cons:
- Too windy in Punggol
- In view of traffic jams along Shenton Way, travelling time to
Buona Vista may be affected
Service 48 extension: Bedok North Depot - Ayer Rajah Bus
Park
(No boarding/alighting in ARBP.)
- Connects one-north area to Buona Vista MRT
- Connects a sector of North Buona Vista Rd (which doesn't have
a service today) to Buona Vista MRT
Cons:
- Route may be too long
- Does not serve one-north MRT
- Cannot use DDs on 48 (but can introduce 48M from ARBP to Buona
Vista MRT)
Going via Shenton Way towards Buona Vista would be slower and
less direct. I think the demand from HDB estates like Punggol to
both places is better served by individual bus svcs, as peak hr pax
going to work are looking for a much more direct alternative than
the MRT. Extending 48 to Biopolis would give direct bus connection
to more places, but route may be too long, as you've pointed out. A
short bus svc from Buona Vista should be more likely.
