Currently, to travel from Boon Lay to Yio Chu Kang, one has to take East West Line, Circle Line and North South Line. The Journey takes at least 49 minutes.

With this new trunk bus service, the same journey now takes around 45 minutes!

^^ apparently, there is already route 852. Perhaps what we can do is to re-route 852 to Jurong East.

Seriously. It's really a waste that Jurong East Bus Interchange does not have the capacity for at least thirty bus routes. Its location is so centralised that it could have been a regional bus interchange! :(

Actually, now that there are programs in online maps that generate shortest and fastest routes, there is no need for this routes suggestions thread.

Anyway, the good news is that it is possible to have a trunk bus route (of less than 22.5km) between Yishun and Jurong East. Close enough.

Here's what the directions service on www.onemap.sg generated:

Direction 1: to Yishun

Direction 2: to Jurong East

^^ the length is 21.33km (to Yishun) and 21.2km (to Jurong East).

Driving time is around 33 minutes in both directions.

Journey time is around 50 minutes in both directions.

^^ Nonetheless, I have to say that this duplicates existing bus route 171, except at Bukit Batok and Jurong East.

Anyway, now with Downtown Line opening, perhaps we can re-route 171 to Jurong East - skipping the entire stretch from Bukit Panjang to the city?

Depends on which roads you use -- but there's alternative services present already.

Unless you use express for the last leg, of course. I'll still prefer to route 171 to Bt Batok, given that the interchange still has space (Bt Panjang ITH is still u/c, while CCK is jam-packed), and the route would be shorter (should be under 22.5km).

P. S. Your route above is frankly just 171 + 176. Is it necessary to create a brand new service just for that?

Well, it does duplicate 176 between Upper Bukit Timah Road and Jurong East Central.

There is no such route. It hasn't been introduced, and I doubt it will be in the near future. Don't spread around your fantasies as if they're truth.

And why bother thinking about an issue as trivial as the "berth", when you have so many other factors to consider for a route suggestion? The size and bus capacity of the interchange, the exact routing, and traffic flow, just to name some.

Read my reply again. I acknowledged it duplicates route 171 and suggested that it instead be a reroute of 171 when the Downtown MRT Line opens.

Anyway, what's the point of having this bus route I suggested when there's already the direct MRT (Jurong East to Yishun) and it takes only around thirty five minutes?

I estimate that the traveling time on the bus route I suggested would take around fifty minutes.

Unless, you can think of another bus route that can provide that connection between Jurong and Yishun in less than thirty minutes.

I think only an express bus service which calls at only Jurong East and Yishun bus interchanges (and perhaps a few bus stops) can provide such speed.

Anything faster, take taxi. Or ownself drive car.

Hi, I would like to clarify that the values I write are in one direction.

I think the range is 7km, where

Feeder: 1.5km to 8.5km

Trunk: 8.5km to 15.5km

Long Trunk: 15.5km to 22.5km

Express: 22.5km to 29.5km

Actually, it makes sense. The longest BSEP express bus route 951 is 29.5km in one direction. The shortest BSEP trunk route 49 is 8.7km in one direction. The longest BSEP feeder route 804 is 8.0km in one direction.

I think the definitions are clear now.

With that, I look forward to better suggestions of bus routes. Whether new or existing, please ensure that the length of one direction is within the range. The only flexibility is that "Trunk" can become "Long Trunk", that's all.

Feeder one direction minimum 1.5km, maximum 8.5km

There are many websites that enable us to measure length. For example, onemap.sg tools, "Google My Maps" create path, etcetera.

Let us make it a practice that when we suggest bus routes, we indicate the length in one direction.

If it is an amendment to an existing route, indicate the final length in one direction.

I would like to make some changes:

Long Trunk Service: Anything above 22.5km

Express: Regardless of length, but requires at least 40% of express sectors

Well, I am no bus route planner. The ranges of length of bus service types are based on my observations on the new routes launched under the BSEP since September 2012.

I guess the most important factor is the duration of the journey.

Ideally, the travel time on the new trunk buses should be less than or equal to the travel time on the routes currently available, otherwise people would only take it because there are seats (and sometimes because it is cheaper).

Nowadays, the online maps directions service have estimated travel times. Sometimes, the same route has different travel times across different online maps (eg. OneMap versus Google Maps). We can find the average of the travel times to get an idea of exactly how long would the travel time be.

Whereas for the journey time, I do not know how SBS, TIBS or CSS derive that. I guess is a certain percentage (eg. 150%) of the travel time.

70 needs to preserve its link between YCK MRT and YCK road. There are people from Seletar Hills who take 70 to YCK apart from industrial areas on YCK road. For YCK Road - Yishun, once the capacity on 854 is beefed up with more DDs, it should be fine.
