this is where the double standards comes in.

many wants virgin girls as their girlfriends or even wives. but at the same time they are producing more and more non-virgin girls by having multiple sex partners.

and because increasing amount of teens are having sex at such a young age, by the age of mid to late 20s when one is ready to settle down, there won't be much virgin girls left.

It strikes me that plenty of pretty girls are insecure abt their guy, so they choose a less yandao one. Likewise, fugly girls can take it easy having a yandao bf 'cos these guys did not go after them for looks. Just my opinion....

in the end, i feel that love that doesnt last for a lifetime and beyond is just unadulterated lust... with some good feelings attached to it. it has no meaning to it, in and of itself. unless the joker wanna score a million girls before he hits 21...

Gordon... I can understand how it feels like when you know that kids these days are getting laid before they even know how to do quadratic equations and chemistry lab sessions. I know. I'm already 23, and I've never even had a steady relationship before, much less a sexual intercourse.

But like I said, it's all about perception. You may think that they're lucky they had sex so early. But try telling that to the 14-year old Sec 2 girl who had to drop out of school to rear her baby or the 17-year old JC student who contracted the HIV virus. I'm sure that they'd consider themselves as anything but lucky.

The problem is that those ethical codes by themselves are constantly changing. 30 to 40 years ago in Singapore a couple holding hands in public was already considered as a shameless act of PDA. Now prostitutes openly soliciting customers in the streets is considered normal. At this rate, open sex by the roadside will soon be the norm. Confused

You also can't underestimate to power of the mass media. As much parents and teachers keep telling us about the virtues of chastity and abstinence, it all counts for nuts if we have our youth watching sex scenes and blatant promiscuity on the telly set at 10pm. The message that gets driven into their brains is clear: 'sex is fun. Abstinence is for dorks.' Confused

In the past, the best friends of our youth are their parents. But now with the close relationships of youths exhibiting a paradigm shift from parents to their peers, it's a whole lot harder to live by your parents' sayings and warnings with regards to sexual promiscuity. Especially if your best bud happens to be bragging about how all his sexual 'conquests'.

As for me, I'll stick to what my parents said about the birds and the bees. Call me old-fashioned, but to me they hold a lot of wisdom.

And after seeing what happened to one of my buddies when he came down with gonorrhoea after a ONS, I'm convinced once and for all that abstinence till marriage is the smartest thing to do.

I'm fairly open and liberal actually, but something like sex has to be really put into perspective, because there is always the element of risk, and the emotional burden that you will get as you go along..

Perhaps it's just one of those no-go areas for me. PDA is not that bad in my eyes though, but when I hear of those abortion questions, I'd really want to knock them in the head..

To me, the reasons for abstinence are pretty clear:

1. I'm not ready for a shotgun marriage. Let me get my B.Eng (Mechanical) first, please...

2. If my girl gets pregnant, it would be too much to ask her to skip one semester of school and carry the baby to term.

3. But at the same time, I find it abhorrent to be killing Fudgester Jr in his mother's womb. To me, abortion should only be an option in extreme cases where life or limb is at stake.

4. Gonorrhoea, chylamydia and herpes simplex sound ugly. And they ARE ugly.

5. My religion forbids it. Simple as that.

As it is, I already have plenty to worry about with assignments, term papers and projects going on. I certainly have better things to do than add problems 1-5 to my already-growing list of headache-inducing problems.
