Question :
If 30% of the fish are transferred from Aquarium A to Aquarium B, they will have the same number of fish, If 100 fish are transferred from Aquarium A to Aquarium B, AquariumB will have 80% more fish than Aquarium A

(a) How many per cent more fish are there in Aquarium A than in Aquarium B?
(b) How many fish are there in Aquarium A?

0.7A = B + 0.3A ==> B = 0.4A
(A-B)/B × 100% = 0.6A/0.4A × 100% = 150%

(b)
1.8(A - 100) = B + 100 ==> B = 1.8A - 280

0.4A = 1.8A - 280
1.4A = 280
A = 200
B = 80

I sitted for PSLE more than 10 years ago and came across such challenging questions. These type of questions (mostly question 46 and onwards and most of the time is 4 or 5 marks questions). Drawing models is a must, if didn't draw will be difficult to solve these challenging questions. When I'm in pri school really can score these questions easily and always got A* for my Maths paper. But my sec school de always fail Embarassed maybe it's more on memorizing formulaes.

I once went for a interview test for promotion (at work) and was quite surprise to see unrelated challenging pri sch maths questions being used in the test.

I only encounter 1 such question in maths for PSLE and its more like application of Algebra. The main lessons are only covered during secondary 1 and 2.

A=200 and B=80 is correct. The answers to the questions can be derived from these figures.
